$55k of expenses on a golf course is one month.
$14 - $20 rounds with carts and students paying $1.25 a semester.
So, I keep asking you guys to explain how these numbers are supposed to work and you all keep calling me an idiot.
No one thinks it is unique but do you think it is ubiquitous?

It's a public entity it isn't there to make money, if it does, great. I don't see what's so hard to understand about that.
The Gray Course at Ohio Stste is $20 for students to play

I agree that LSU turf management program should be involved in helping with the course. Earlier this year I thought they had the best public greens in Baton Rouge. Also money would not be a problem if the course was up to par. The guys that worked there told me that they were always the 1st or 2nd in the round played in the Baton Rouge area for years. What I also found surprising is that every Monday and Tuesday, there were a older crowd there so big that it was almost impossible to get a early tee time on those mornings. This pass Tuesday, I think it was just 4 of us out there.

I think you are confused. I am not surprised it exists. I am not surprised it isn't trying to make money.
But, I am also not surprised anyone would want to use that property for other purposes and shut it down. And I am also not surprised it is in terrible shape.
Ohio State's endowment is $6B LSU's is $500M
Ohio State has double our enrollment.

But I thought students shouldn't be subsidizing the course?

Circa 2012 if it was always packed. Tons of older guys every morning then a mixed crowd by lunch time. Like couldn't get a tee time on the weekends after like Wednesday packed.

The course needs to be closed. At this point it is nothing but a money pit that a the little bit of money going to it is showing no positive results.

I am just providing you guys some perspective on that place. I am continually amazed at how y'all just think golf courses should just exist regardless of economics. Believe it or not even non-profits and governments have to balance budgets.
I want all these golf courses to exists but I am also a realist. When I dig into the numbers I am amazed they have all been open this long.

You don't provide anything but generalized statements that are half truths without any information.

No you don't and you've said as much.

What numbers? The BREC report isn't bad at all and you don't have any numbers from LSU

Unfortunely, you are probably right at this point. It would take a very large capital investment if it's as bad as you guys say it is.
The problem is they should have never let it get like that.

Student fees.
Price per round.
The fact that even in good years it was losing $200k to $250k per year, per the Advocate. So imagine what it loses now.
LSUs endowment and enrollment vs Ohio States
What else do you want? What facts are you bringing besides name calling and "It doesn't need to make money or worry about a budget because LSU"

They just spent a bunch of money on equipment before the Covid 19. I don't see how they have much overhead they have, maybe they are paying the students that work there a lot of money. Besides they have them cutting the grass and maintaining the greens. Earlier in the year, a student was cutting the greens and had a bad oil leak which he never noticed(or care). The next week, 5 greens had a streak in them.

I didn't say that.

Sorry I want them to exist but not be dumps. If they are going to be crappy and never get invested into then they need to be shutdown. BR public golf has been embarrassing for years.

Or the landscape architect school.
It's my ”if I had a billion dollars” move would be to just dump 15 or so mil into making it stupidly nice. Sell it as an endowment for the LA school

1. That's from 2015
2. That 200k is not really clear. How much of that comes from fees? I don't know the answer and neither do you. If 125k of that comes from fees then it's fine. If they are getting the fees and another 200k out of the general fund, then yes, a problem.
That article doesn't really tell me anything definitively. All of the people quoted have an agenda. I remember when all of this was going down, and many of those people wanted it closed no matter what for other uses. That's a fine opinion to have and it has its merits, but I'm also not going to take a lot of their comments at face value.

Kind of the point. You can have the nicest equipment there is and if you put college kids on it for minimum wage they aren't 1) going to know how to operate it or 2) give a shite. There's a reason that nice golf courses use high school / college kids to pick range balls and clean carts and not manage the greens.

About $80k to $100k from fees.
Again remember that was during some good LSU golf course years. Imagine what they are losing now.

That's not bad in my opinion and could be even lower with any effort at all

I agree, like I said, if it's as bad as some of the posters are indicating it probably needs to be closed because of the big capex it's going to take and they aren't going to do it.
I have issue only that they let it get like that
