There is an inherent advantage to looking like the majority of the population. Doesn't mean you have to apologize for it, nor does it mean you should stick you head in the sand and act like it's not true.
If that is true why do Asians do so well in this country? We have had to deal with affirmative action our entire lives. Less qualified people getting our jobs and being unfairly promoted. Take this crap out of here. Tell a lie often enough and people will believe it. High school drop outs can't understand why a company hires someone better educated and doesn't have a prison record.

I've never suffered because of my skin color (white), but I've certainly experienced racism.
My reaction - if someone is stupid enough to judge me by my skin color then I don't care if they like me or not.

I didn’t get into my first choice college despite all AP classes, valedictorian, soccer varsity captain, volunteering at the hospital, excellent SAT, etc etc etc. Black girl in my class, who was smart but objectively had a worse application than mine, whose mom was a retired lawyer, got in AND got a full ride. Boy did that experience open my eyes to how the world really works.
I hadn't applied to Tulane. I wanted to go to LSU, but my high school screwed my out of the Valedictorian by letting him drop the class against policy. Had Tulane been my school that would have cost me their top scholarship available to me.

Except when white people are attacked for the color of their skin by black people.

I tell my kids to embrace being white and to love every minute of it. Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

There are so many different ways one can cast a majority vs. minority dichotomy that the entire notion of privilege really seems like a dramatic oversimplification of how social interactions really work.
If one experiences an advantage from being in the majority, this advantage wouldn't necessarily stop at race. It would go into things like how you dress, how you talk, what is your sexual orientation, what is your religion, do you have visible tattoos, all the way down to the most mundane details. And if we all experience a series of advantages/disadvantages based on how well we align with a majority for a single trait, of what value is isolating individual advantages and focusing solely on them?
Which factors matter for being in the majority and which ones don't? The single variable analyses that these "privilege" conversations promote don't seem particularly convincing because the vast majority of people simply don't view their social interactions through these single-variable lenses.

This is more a class thing than a race thing.

The backpack analogy is pathetic. Socioeconomic status is far more impactful, but I still contend that, given two otherwise equal individuals, the one who looks like the majority of clients/people will be more successful.
That shouldn't be remotely controversial either. 93% of white people in the US marry someone who is white, yet people act like race is irrelevant. 81% of black marriages are to other black people. This shite is human nature, yet people will still argue against it. It's ignorant.

Then I suppose you need to talk to them about the dangers of being white and well to do in a poor black neighborhood

It truly is. I mean who packed the white kids backpack anyway? Could it have been his parents, that provide a loving home and good support and positive encouragement to do well in life? Why in the frick should we blame those white parents for filling the kids backpack as much as they can, and completely ignore the black parents that don't even give a frick if their kid has a backpack? The issue here is that it places the responsibility on black communities and parents to make a change which won't be seen til years down the road but we can't have that. We need immediate answers now so it's easiest to just blame whitey

I’m very proud of the privilege that I was born to two married parents who worked very hard, paid way too much in taxes, and instilled the value of hard work and education all while imparting discipline, morals, and values in my life.
