First thing, what is your budget?
2nd thing, what species will you be targetting?

I just picked up a 7 ft. Shakespear Ugly Stick and a Pflueger President 40 that ran me about $120 total.

I'll use it for the same stuff you are looking to catch and throw in bass, catfish etc. for some freshwater action.

ETA: My two trips with it out to the Miss. River found me landing a 42 inch Blue Cat that went 31 lbs. and the next trip a 31 inch Blue Cat that went 25 lbs. plus a few in the 5-10 lb. range.

Can't wait until I can get to my favorite spot once the river goes down and shoot for some flatheads.

The Daiwa BG is the nicest $100 reel I’ve ever used. You can get it in a combo package for under $150.

I wouldn’t mess with a baitcaster in that price range.

Funny you ask. I want to do inshore fishing for the same species but I actually want to go with a fly setup. Size and brand for Rod, reel, line, etc.

Any suggestions?

It’s hard to beat the Shimano SLX or the Lew’s LFS baitcasters at the their price point of $99. If you increase your budget to around $175, you could pair either with a decent St Croix rod and have a nice combo.
