its 2020 and lets be real likely spend more time in 4-2-5 than 4-3.

Your front is still going to stay as regular as possible outside of obvious passing downs

You’re not playing a guy like Ojulari or Anthony on 1st & 2nd down.

Farrell is one of the few guys built to do both on the roster

No one is saying he’s the next Joey bosa.

But looking at his stats as a 3-4 DE isn’t exactly the best way to judge him going forward. That spot is not conducive to getting sacks esp in Aranda’s scheme. But he’s shown ability to get after QB

how many successful defenses have a "rushing down" SDE?

The frick are you getting these terms? Rushing down DE?

Every 4-3 defense has strong side end. The degree of talent differs. But that is just the way the defense is built and that’s what the position is called.

As good as guys like Tyson Jackson and Marcus Spears were, that was a different era, and neither played 4-3 DE in the NFL.

Both of those guys weights were manipulated to fit scheme the same way Farrell is going to drop weight to fit better to what they want to do

Even so, look at the sack numbers. Spears was really good & Jackson was solid.

Is he? He wasn't built like that last year, adn so far I haven't heard he lost 20 pounds. He moved well for a big guy. And thats good, but its still for a big guy.

has he? he has like 4.5 sacks in 3 years and 1 was against an SEC team. I just don't see him beating tackles all that often.

not ever 4-3 defense has a guy that regularly moves inside on passing downs

Thats super easy to say, but currently no one in the program has said it. its more likely he is going to stay at 290 and play DT.

Not to mention O has already said McClendon is a starter and Thomas is going to be an All-American. Those are two of the DEs he has talked about.
