Really high on Farrell heading into this year. Any chance he’d slim down and try to be a 4-3 end. Think he’s too good to be splitting reps with Logan inside.
Also, love to see two kids from alabama balling out for our defense in Neil and Flott. Gives me the same joy as watching delpit and chaisson go against Texas

I'm ready to see how bad #72 is going to destroy dudes in the 4-3. He was dominate through double teams at the nose. Just think about the production he's going to bring.

Three guys - Justin Thomas, too.

Can’t wait to watch shelvin this year. Was thinking about goal line/short yardage this year with the possibility of shelvin and Ika in the middle, with Logan and Farrell on the outside. My god...

I jsut don't see Ferrell as an edge rusher, and I also think he will be a better DT than DE.
I think the main advanteg to moving to a 4-3 is to get an extra edge rusher on teh field.
BTW I found this dynamite article about the "Tite" front Aranda uses (literally uses LSU as the poster child) and the 4-2-5 most schools use to combat the spread offense (this is going to essentially by our base defense in this era)

He'll play end in this 4-3, he's losing weight and getting into shape for that, probably 280-ish. We need Logan, Farrell and Shelvin on the field at same time, by far the best 3 DLine we have. Wouldnt a be great idea to stick 2 unknowns out at DE like Thomas and McClendon IMO.
One of the coaches mentioned moving him to end in this defense a while back.

He definitely doesn’t need to lose weight.

Edge rusher is the wrong label.
Strong side end. Doesn’t have to be a great pass rusher. Set the edge, play the run.
It just so happens Farrell has shown some rush tendencies. Which is why he’ll prob move inside on pass downs so some of the guys LSU has recruited for the 3-4 can rush the passer

Every down is a pass down now.
The biggest advantage to a 4-3 vs a 3-4 is another edge rusher.

4-3 end isn’t an edge rusher
Posted on 5/6/20 at 1:25 pm to SammyTiger
Edge rusher just isn’t a formal term. Not every player that plays an end is an edge rusher.
There very much is a prototype for a SDE and Farrell fits the mold. That position rarely houses “edge rusher” in a conventional 4/3
No not really. Outside of the fact that the front will change on most passing downs, that’s just an untrue generalization. You can manufacture a rush from the edge in many ways, as again, the formation & personnel changes

Not how most any 4-3 works.
Also, teams still run the ball more on average than pass it by far.

Yup
With as much success as burrow had, Even LSU was about even last year. I think 53/47 pass/run

Saints run a 4-3 i don’t know why people act like they never seen a 4-3 before

TShelvin is one of my favorite players the past few years. If he could slim down to about 335. In a 4-3, he could use a little more quickness since he will be doing more than tying up blockers from the NT position.

Naturally he's going to get less of a double team playing 1 tech 1 gap in a 4-3 vs. 0 tech 2 gap in a 3-4.
He could really see the most benefit moving to this because it really does take 2 guys to block him and it's a lot harder to double team on a 4-man front when you have guys shooting gaps vs. playing 2 gaps in a 3 man front.

Maybe that's the confusing part because Cam Jordan plays that big DE role but is still an elite NFL pass rusher at 6'4 287.
In college though at Cal he had 1, 4, 6, and 5.5 sacks his 4 seasons playing.
