I grew up middle class, but I'm curious to what answers the Old Money OT Ballers have.

I was an adult before I realized my cousins had trust funds. Their parents raised them just like mine did - we thought we were poor.

When I left college debt free with a job that affords me to do all the things I want right now and save because my dad saved for years and my cousins left college with crippling debt and philosophy degrees.

During my first sleepover my acquaintances at the time could not get over the fact that I had a chauffeur, a maid, and a chef. It really hit me when they were in awe at the fact that we had Astroworld all to ourselves.

Riding my bike to the country club to swim and eat every day during the summer whilst the plebs played in the sprinkler.

Gulfstream

New money trash.

My moment was when my friend invited me on holiday on his family yacht in the south of France. Upon boarding I was confused and asked the captain how long the ”yacht” was. When she replied only 200 ft, it hit me....there are poors even amongst the supposed rich. Father dispatched our secondary yacht to ferry us on holiday instead, at 300 ft, it saved the vacation from total disaster.

When my parents divorced. My dad stayed rich for the most part. My mom struggled to give us a remotely comparable life to the one we had. Despite my mom's faults, her resilience and commitment to bringing us a good life will always make me remember how lucky I was to have her.

When my mother encouraged me to read. Anything. It became a habit, one I have never been able to be free of.

We weren’t rich growing up, not by OT standards, anyway. But I think I finally realized we were “upper middle class” or whatever when I got a house in college and it was paid for in cash.

When I look forward to my pay check so I can invest more money rather than paying the electric bill.

Our maid let me put it in her butt. The next day I told my dad she deserves a raise.

We had a nanny/housekeeper too. (No pics)

She didn’t live in our house though. But she could cook.

We moved after I finished First Grade (third time lucky!) and we didn’t hire a new one in our new place.
