Reminds me of a long-term substitute high school teacher I had in 10th grade. He was the coolest guy. He took us out on trips through the woods, engaged us in conversations...
I saw him right after that and he was ravaged by cancer. He looked like a ghost. I thought, “this is the last time I’ll ever see or talk to this man.”
I saw him a few years later, and he had rebounded fully. I told him how I couldn’t believe he was alive. He told me how he was in so much pain, that he laid awake praying to die so that he would not suffer anymore.
I’m proud to say that 20 years later, that man is still alive, I’m still alive, and we’re still friends.
Miracles happen. Every single day.
