More people working, get paid more.

At this point politicians have no incentive to get the economy moving again and are trying to one up each other with these illegal stay at home orders.

Perverse incentive in cases of pandemic.

They sort of do get paid based on employment numbers in normal conditions. Indirectly with votes

Better yet, their salary should be tied to the median salary of their districts.

I’d rather they all either volunteer or receive minimum wage.

You're going about this all wrong. We vote these people in. You can reduce their salary to zero.

It should come from their individual states and be voted on by their states legislature and governor.

Personally, I would like it based on average American income or income in their home state.

Also, I want them to permanently teleworker and vote. There is no reason to pay their travel, housing and security. Plus, lobbyist would have a harder time hunting them down and they would be more accountable to the people they are supposed to represent.

And once in they are extremely hard to remove since half our electorate are worthless.

politicians don’t make their income from their “salary”.

They’ll be fine. They make the difference under table and insider trading.

In reality it was just incent current Congressman to make their money elsewhere and would disincent regular folks from ever running. It would make Congress even richer and less responsive than it is now across both parties.

Gotta go further. No government job in the entire country should have a top salary higher than the average income of the taxpayers that pay their salary.

Teacher is top pay average of their district. Governor average of their state.

No politician needs their salary to get rich.
