Masterbuilt Gravity Series

Does anyone have one and if so what's your opinion. I like the pellet grills but can't seem to get the smoke I want without use of a pellet tube. The masterbuilt seems to tick all the boxes as well as being much less expensive relative to the pellet grills.

I watched a Kosmos Q video on it the other day, looks like a great way to get more people into smoking.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. My Yoder might be for sale, it's that impressive. You get the flavor of a stick burner for smoking but can crank up to sear a steak. I've smoked a chicken, pork butt, beef ribs, and have a rack of ribs on now. The smoke flavor is much more intense than the pellet grill but you get the convenience of the pellet grill without having to tend a fire. The app is hit or miss though.

I am living in an apartment atm. You think it'd be alright on a balcony? I have the room but I'm worried about the ashes.

I think it would be fine on a balcony. You'd also be fine with the ashes as long as you can dispose of them, you don't have to deal with them until the smoker has cooled down.

Check your local fire code. Most chiefs don't like a charcoal fire above garden level.

So are you just getting flavor from charcoal smoke? Can you put wood in it?

From what the website says you can use wood with the charcoal but to limit the size to about a fist.

I use charcoal and you can add wood chunks, you can put them in the charcoal hopper or ash bin.

It's a very impressive smoker. It burns really clean, is very efficient, cooking temps remain stable (mine was between a degree or two), and you get a nice, smooth, and deep smoke flavor. I'd recommend lump charcoal, with wood chunks going in the ash pan. This way you can control the amount of smoke and wood consumption. You can also use a natural briquette in lieu of lump, but keep an eye on it because of the amount of humidity that's being trapped in the charcoal chute.

If you just put wood in the ash pan it does catch well enough to overpower the charcoal smoke and impart flavor?

I'm reviewing my lease for grill restrictions and have googled the local fire code. That being said, this complex is rife with charcoal, pellet, and gas grills. Not that I'm jumping off a bridge with everyone else.

Yep, no issues there. The embers from the charcoal constantly fall, lighting the wood.

Yes. The charcoal is your primary heat source, and the wood is really just secondary heat and is your primary flavor.

Went to grill some pork chops last night and my grill grates fell through. It made it 10 years, but it's time.
Did some research after this thread and pulled the trigger on one. Will update on maiden voyage.

Got one Sunday and did reverse sear thick pork chops tonight as a test cook. Super easy to get started and held a stable temp +/- 5 degrees. Hoping to do a longer cook soon, but really happy with how convenient it is. Also have an Akorn that I was used to babysitting and am looking forward to having something that needs less attention.

I found a coupon code for ACE online. It comes out to $75 off. Not a bad deal for $425.
