Not only is China liable to lie they may also be liable to simply execute or otherwise lock those infected away and do the same to anyone who says boo about it. I hope its true....I seriously doubt it is.

We have 35000 deaths from the flu with a vaccine annually that for the most part works. We are months away from such a vaccine for the 'Roni....worst case scenario I've seen was 2.5 - 3 million dead in the US....lots more than 35000. Lets say we beat that by 99%...say 25,000 people die from the virus....still damned serious...and 99% is a pretty serious discount.

Now lets consider 2.5 Million dead...in the overall scheme of things, so what? Unless you are one of them or someone you care about, so what? Its tragic...but the damage done to lives from the economy being destroyed will cost lives also and that damage could last a couple of generations. Simply discounting the virus as nothing more serious than a cold or a yearly flu is just wishful on par with thinking you can shut the economy down and overcome it in a reasonable amount of time and without serious ramifications. We are screwed either way but 3 million dead is a far cry from that many foreclosures, that many small businesses failing catastrophically and that many bankruptcies....we are making matters worse than they would be otherwise...but pretending the virus is normal and the same thing faced every year with a vaccine is nothing more than wishful thinking.
