We just found out that Cooperstown trip is not gonna happen. They have cancelled the 2020 season. 2 years of fundraising down the drain

Why was it canceled? Is there something going on in the world I don't know about?

one of the best trips of my life. Sucks for those kids.

I hate travel ball fund raisers/beggars... If you can’t afford to take your kid yourself then don’t go/play, it’s voluntary. Why should others pay for your Kid to play baseball. I went to swim meets all around the country and nobody paid a dime except my parents

The great thing about fundraisers is that its voluntary in terms of the person being asked to cough up the funds wants to contribute or not. You don’t get what you don’t ask for. Don’t want to contribute? Don’t. Kid gets rejected for asking. That’s fine too. There is a lesson in there if the adult helps the kid understand it.
It also helps these youngsters, providing they are shown how to do it by a superior, to get out there and craft some people skills of their own. Nothing wrong with that.
I will say I am more of a fan of the traditional knock on your door, meet someone for the first time in the yard, etc. type approach as opposed to setting up shop at a local grocer. Sure, volume matters and I see why they do it, but nothing beats a good hustle than door to door.

I would be ashamed As a parent if I sat outside Walmart or made up raffle tickets and asked somebody else to help fund my trip to gulf shores ot Cooperstown for a kids baseball tournament. That’s pitiful, and nobody who does travel ball is receiving Medicaid or food stamps... those kids have the best equipment and their parents can afford every penny they need... it’s just pure laziness and greed or whatever you want to call it.
To me it teaches the kids the wrong lesson... they can get handouts just like everyone else and all they have to do is hold up a sign or ask someone for money

Travel ball gets a lot of shite, deservedly so, but both my parents and I have great memories from playing in Cooperstown in 1997. Hopefully the kids get to have a similar experience.

Consider yourself lucky. You cane from a family with money.
Plenty of kids grow up in situations where they and their parents wonder where there next meal will come from. I coached a travel team who had no uniforms or even vehicles to travel to games.
Parents gave what they could but was t close to enough. So the kids went out and raised the money. Did what they had to do. There were no leagues for them to play in so travel was the only way to go
Team didn’t win a game. Lots of the games were pretty lopsided. However they did learn the value of not giving up and that just because you are poor it doesn’t mean you can’t still find a way to make it.
You have missed the entire point of team sports and are the problem with “travel” ball in general.
Sorry some kids weren’t blessed with having money like you did. I’d take those kids any day over someone who looks down on those trying to find a way to make it.

So you believe only rich people should be the only ones with access to the better leagues.
Awesome.

I was going to say something stereotypical about red cleats guy being the fastest but I figured it would be tacky.

Really? I was so disappointed. Cooperstown is pretty but the HOF itself is tiny. Blasphemous as it may sound I thought the place was a shithole.

I mean... just don’t donate if that’s how you feel. I don’t have a problem throwing some less fortunate kids a couple bucks for a cool experience but I’m also not a poor like you sound like.
