No mention of Eddie Van Halen?

Last time we had this thread we did.

Problem with Eddie is that - far above a lot of these other cats, his talent is unique and irreplaceable. His being one of the most singularly terrible, miserable, difficult-to-like assholes in all of pop/rock music history doesn't chip at any evaluation of his talent.

Compare that to Henley - who was a great singer and songwriter, but he's not in the same league of talent as EVH. Or, frankly, Roger Waters (although Roger could never really sing), if you really want to know the truth about it (and I LOVE The Eagles after all these years - nostalgia mostly, but still...)

Don Henley and Glenn Frey

Growing up I always thought it was Henley that was the a-hole, and the one that probably broke up the band. After watching an Eagles doc. I've changed my mind and think it was Glenn Fry. RIP Sorry to say it, but he really came off as an a-hole. Plus he was responsible for getting one of my favorite members kicked out. Randy Meisner

I hate to hear that. I'd always heard Henley was the a-hole.

Success can do that to people unfortunately.

I thought Randy quit on his own even after the blow up of him not wanting to sing Take It To The Limit during an encore.

I loved most of Randy's songs in the band, especially Too Many Hands with the dueling lead guitars of Felder and I guess Leadon toward the end.
Too Many Hands

His high harmony gave Rick Nelson's band a great sound in the late 60's

he stole all of the publishing

His bandmates were heavy into drugs, no doubt, but I have seen enough written to believe he wrongfully took songwriting credits. Richard Manuel's suicide was linked, in part, to resentment over Robertson's songwriting credits...
