Do you have any better suggestions?

Todd Walker... and there are no close seconds to any of the three!
Here is a blurb written on Furniss:
Furniss was named SEC Player of the Year in 1996 and National Player of the Year two years later. His impressive college career culminated in his induction into the College Baseball Hall of Fame – one of just three former Tigers players to receive that honor. He helped LSU win back-to-back national championships in 1996 and 1997.
Furniss arrived in Baton Rouge shortly after Hall of Famer Todd Walker's college career ended and Furniss ultimately broke several of Walker's SEC records.
The first baseman left LSU as the conference's leader in hits (352), doubles (87), home runs (80), RBI (308), and total bases (689). Furniss ranked in the top five in NCAA history in latter four categories when he finished his college career.
That's legendary.

As somebody said earlier, we could debate baseball mvp all day long, but I'm sticking with Joey Belle. He came along before the juiced bats.
Todd Walker would be my second choice.
Hell my top 3 would be Belle, Walker, McDonald.

Todd broke records first and did it in just 3 years instead of 4 like Eddy.

Yeah, I'm taking Todd over Eddy.

Pistol Pete, Joe Burrow, Ben McDonald.

I like your three, but Billy Cannon is an extremely close call to Joe Burrow. They both played the most important position at that time, won Heismans and led their team to an undefeated national championship. Burrow had one great year; Cannon had two. And Canon played both ways. Very close call.
Aaron Nola is a close call with Walker, as is Bregman. Pete stands alone.

I had not noticed that until you pointed it out, but it’s hard to avoid it. LSU baseball does not have a great non-white candidate. Our two Heisman trophy winners are white. And our best basketball player - a sport that has been dominated by great black players - happens to be white. Pete Maravich is the only slam dunk choice, imo.

But Furniss was not nearly as good as half a dozen other players. That’s just a fact.

I don't where these two can even be a debate. Give me Todd Walker in baseball.
This. This thread could have been “best LSU baseball player”. No offense intended to the OG Billy Cannon or Shaq/CJ/Petit.
Give me Big Ben.
In reference to the Walker/Furniss debate, were Walker’s bats as juiced as the ones right after him. Had that already reached its apex in the early 90s? I was a wee lad back then, didn’t get to see him play in person.

Let’s check back in on Bregman in 10 years.
Albert Joey Belle is the best baseball player ever at LSU. Everyone else can be argued as second best.

You picked three good one but it would be tough to pick only one in each sport especially Baseball so I will give my top 3 in each.
Football - Burrow, Cannon, Peterson
Basketball - Marovich, Shaq , Rauf (Jackson)
Baseball - McDonald, Bregman, Walker
