Watching parents health deteriorate as they age is hell

My mom has had chronic RSD for 14 years, and within the past 6 months her condition has gotten drastically worse. She’s gone from being able to do for herself, do yard work mowing 2 acres and working in her garden to not being able to make herself food or wear anything heavier than a thin nightgown because the sensation of clothing rubbing her skin makes her writhe in pain when she’s in a flare up.
Her pain management doctor only writes her opiates and muscle relaxants, which help but are nothing more than a bandaid and end up making her pain worse over time. There’s been a ton of promise for medical cannabis oil, tinctures and all of that to treat RSD, but her doctor is staunchly against it. I’m so frustrated and angry watching her just wither away in constant pain. She isn’t even 60 yet. I hate this. I wish I could take away all of her pain and just let her live her life on her terms as she did for 41 years. Bought her CBD online today, but she’s worried it’ll make her pop positive for THC at her doctors office again. She’s never smoked in her life and her doctor treated her like a drug addict even as I was adamantly defending her, even brought the damn bottle to his office and offered to pay any cost to have it tested for the amount of THC in it since it’s supposed to have a negligible amount. I don’t know what to do anymore, other than pray and be thankful for the time I have left with her.
Sorry if this reads like a pity party or Dear Facebook post, just needed to get this out of me and hoped to maybe get some replies with advice from an OT doctor or two.

I feel ya.
Had a father go through years of Alzheimer's, now my mother has gone from being super active to essentially wheelchair bound.

A father passing at 71 underneath a four wheeler is probably worse

Really sorry for your mom. That has to be brutal.
I’d consider looking at different doctors.

Yeah I’m dreading it. My parents are still doing alright but both have a few chronic issues. Right now it’s not really slowing them down, but these are the types of things that only get worse over time and eventually lead to other problems.
As my Dad says, “Growing old ain’t for sissies.”

Go to a different doctor. That one sounds like a fricking idiot.

I know how that feels too. My Memaw (maternal grandma) had Alzheimer’s and Dementia and died 5 years ago January 15th. Her oldest big brother died from choking on a piece of ham when he was in his 40’s, her other brother was murdered in 2011 and her dad died from cancer in 1980. She’s had an extremely hard life and yet is the most vibrant, funny, kind woman. I know life isn’t fair, but this is fricking cruel. She’s actually writing a children’s book and Tanden is a character name in it I showed her the threads with Tanden when that was going down. she used to post here back in the mid 2000’s

Not trying to equate my situation with her to anyone else’s, man. I can imagine that must’ve been terrible. I’m sorry for your loss.

Yes, it was so tough watching my parents get old and frail and eventually pass away. They were always the strong ones there for you, and you have to watch them go through that and help and support as best you can; sometimes all you can do is say I love you. My parents are long gone but we went through it with my mother-in-law for the past year, she died last summer, it was just as bad. Now my father-in-law is going down the same road, it is so painful.
My thoughts are with you guys.

Interesting timing for this topic. We just learned my father has stage 4 cancer and docs are saying a month or two left.

If you're lucky, we all get to live long enough to watch our parents die. And it's usually not pretty. As painful as it is, know that watching them die is alot less painful than them watching you die. I'm sorry for what you are going through right now.

I don’t know what state you’re in but the doctor’s hostility towards THC could be due to the federal government still refusing to legalize it. Pain management doctors are under stricter scrutiny now than in the past so he might be a little paranoid. Of course it’s ridiculous bc THC is far far safer than anything he’s prescribing but our government is wicked and forces pathetic situations like this.
I got my mom some edibles to help with her chemo and she was too afraid to try it. Our government that caused a 65 yr old woman fighting cancer to fear jail. Pisses me off.

I’m sorry for your loss man. That’s all I’ve been able to do, and hold her while she’s crying. RSD can eventually spread to your insides, and I’m terrified of that happening soon. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I’ve considered going to a legal state and loading up on super high CBD % edibles and stuff like that to help. She refuses to see another doctor, and I doubt very seriously ever considers going that way for treatment. I actually don’t believe he’s allowed to prescribe it in Louisiana. I think you have to go to a certain doctor for it. I meet the criteria to get medical cannabis oil in La and my doctor told me I’d have to go to this doctor in Shreveport to get my green card or whatever you call if before I could get it at the pharmacy.

Are you really trying to make this into a competition?
