They should have paid the people whose labor they used to get rich more. A lot more. It's that simple. Labor is the source of wealth. We have no problem with people having nice things. But a lot more people should profit from their labor.

If the workers held out and were patient they might have earned more? 2 way street, Ralph. Greed and selfishness at work both ways.

So I'm guessing you don't believe in supply and demand?

Do you think a business should pay more wages than supply and demand says?

That's not a really good business model. Pay employees what they are worth. Low education and low skilled workers are a dime a dozen. But you think they should be payed more than their market value why?

Someone won't pay more than the market value for the thing that worker is making.

You want to be paid more? Make yourself worth more. Get an education. Gain skills. Be great at what you do.

Want to be paid less? Be undependable. Be unskilled. Don't care about your work. Make yourself easily replaceable.

Do you support politicians making $200k/year + benefits for life?

How much of their own money did the "people" risk?

Why don't you try this out? Advertise lawn cutting for $350 per yard in your neighborhood. See if any of your neighbors offer you the job.

Creating value is the source of wealth. If labor = wealth, then if I go dig holes in my yard all day and money doesn’t magically appear in my bank account, I’m being cheated by the system. Does that sound reasonable?

People who talk about the way things “should” be are losers.

Did someone force them to accept the wages they took?

Did someone force them to not change careers?

quote:

Labor is the source of wealth.

So if it’s labor alone, then if I go outside now and just start digging a hole with absolutely no purpose I’ll get money? Because that’s labor?

quote:

We have no problem with people having nice things. But a lot more people should profit from their labor.

The person who gets paid an hourly wage/salary literally has nothing in the game. There is no risk involved. They show up and are provided everything they need to perform their job and then they go home. If the company fails, they lose their job. But the business owner loses everything. So you want the person who has taken out a second mortgage to afford their own business to have absolutely no profit? Do you have any idea what the consequences will be if we remove the possibility for profit? What do you think the motivating factor is for many small businesses? What about the healthcare industry? What about technology companies? If it were not about profit, and everyone was guaranteed a wage, then why would we expect anyone to try harder than their peers? Look at all of the technological breakthroughs that have come from countries that operate in a capitalist manner. You’d give that all up on the basis that some people are rich? Jealousy is just awful, it blinds people to obvious consequences.

Um...I don't think you understand the difference between wealth and liquidity.

They paid them fair market price.

Since when? Name me one time since civilizations started that laborers were more wealthy than businessmen?

Apparently you do as Bernie wants a wealth tax, not just a high income tax. Name one group that doesn’t profit from their labor outside of prisoners.

Sounds like those billionaires should be put in jail for putting guns to the workers heads and threatening them with death if they didn't take the jobs.

Which would in turn raise the cost of whatever end product that labor produced. That's how this works.
When you hire somebody to do work for you, ie mow your lawn, change your oil, paint your house, build a deck, do you hire the most expensive person or do you look for the best price? Business owners are no different.

Let's say you have a pile of 2x4's, and everything needed to build a small shed.

You decide to build that shed (10 hours of labor).

Tomorrow you decide to tear that shed down. (2 hours of labor)

You now have a pile of 2x4's and everything needed to build a small shed.

You have a total of 12 hours of labor invested into this pile of materials. Are you saying that your pile of materials is now worth more that mine because of the labor you put into it?

So the billionaires got rich off of slaves that they forced to work for them ? You people are crazy. You act like these business will put you in jail if you do their work while you support the government forcing people to give them money or go to jail .
