All Star Game--Elam Ending

I've pushed the Elam Ending on here before. We got to see it on a big stage during the ASG last night, and it was pretty awesome.
In normal games, it just tends to cut down on intentional fouling and keep gameplay more normal at the end. If there was one major basketball change, this would be it for me.
The Elam Ending is just stopping the clock at a predetermined point (4 min in The Basketball Tourney, the whole 4th last night), adding X points to the leading team's score and playing to that number. It's great in TBT and was great last night.

It's awesome.
Most, not all, that disagree would do so just because it's always been done one way if I had to guess.
I think it was Russillo who said it recently and was spot on IMO. If basketball had always done it the Elam way, then all of a sudden in 2020 someone wanted to introduce the timed ending with fouls every other possession that makes the last 2 minutes take 20 minutes, people would think that would be absurd to even consider.

game got serious when team bron started thinking they own the refs and should get all the calls. bunch of pussies.

Yeah that was getting annoying

CP3 and Harden were in regular season form

I don't even think it's that weird. Most of us grew up playing with that scoring system in pickup ball.
It makes teams play the end like they do the rest of the game, just with more immediate intensity. No intentional fouls or letting people go to the rim to run clock and avoid ft's or 3's.

Probably some serious money on the line between teams or certain individuals

I don't think I've ever watched The Basketball Tournament, but I imagine their way is a bit better where you don't turn off the clock until like 2 minutes left or something then only add 7 points to the total needed.
Obviously the NBA is just trying it out and went with 24 for obvious reasons, but just pointing out that waiting til the final 2 minutes or so would make it even better IMO.

The only thing that sucks about it is we'd never get buzzer beaters again like that Kawhi shot against the 76ers. And if it was implemented I'd like to see an additional rule that the game can't end on a free throw.

I see your point, but wouldn't the team that is down just foul every possession?

It makes teams actually play basketball at the end of games instead of what we have now

Can't end on a free throw unless up by a certain number of points is the remedy to that.

I get that, although I think you'd see some cool shots in a next basket wins scenario too.
I tend to think the overall penalty for fouling is as good as you can get. FT's are always part of the game, and the Elam Ending already discourages fouling very much. That's why players were getting so mad with the refs last night.
It would have some tradeoffs, but it would mean saying goodbye to intentional fouls and the parade to the free throw line we see now.

I just think the pros vastly outweigh those cons though.

it was pretty funny watching the stars think they should get calls against stars who think they should also get calls.

When the team that's ahead gets to X amount of points, it goes back to being a timed game, maybe?
Put 30 seconds on the clock. Not too much, because you wouldn't want too much of the excess fouling that other posters have mentioned.
This way you get to have your cake and eat it too. Also would make sure the game couldn't end on a foul shot, which some have said they wouldn't prefer.

We're getting too complicated here.
A next basket wins scenario > buzzer beaters.
