re: Is Clemson still saying their schedule should not matter

I see 3, maybe 4, teams that will end up above .500 (ND, UVA, Louisville, and NC State if all goes well).
Florida State is going to need another year I think to get rid of the stench from the previous staff.

Every time people knocked Clemson for their schedule this past year when discussing playoff seedings/participants, defenders would point to them having a weak schedule the year before and destroying Alabama in the championship.
Fans and media do, last year was a little different because they were the reigning champs. but i don't that impacts the committee, remember the first ranking Clemson was 5th and finished 3rd because of their schedule. They were 13-0, there were only 3 P5 teams that were undefeated, so they belonged in the playoff.

If Clemson got embarrassed by Ohio State last year by 40 points and didn't belong on the same field, it would definitely impact the perception of that team with the committee, in the media, and in the court of public opinion
I disagree about the committee. OU got smoked multiple times, still made the playoff lost year. tOSU was embarrassed by Clemson in 2016 and damn near made the playoff with 2 losses the following year. It was the 2 losses, especially the arse kicking by Iowa that ultimately kept them out, not what happened the prior year in the playoffs

Well those guys are not as good as the ACC. I'm all for beating the crap out of who is on the schedule and Clemson has done that. Now if it comes back to haunt them in the playoffs ,so be it. Clemson was a real good team but would have went maybe 9-3 if playing in the SEC.

Bama fricked up by losing to them twice,
Thank God

, if they were 0-4 or 5 in the playoffs they may think twice about just giving them the nod since their SOS is dookie.
and if your aunt had nuts, well she could still identify as your aunt, so nevermind, anyway if they are undefeated they will be in, regardless.
If Oklahoma goes 13-0 this year, they will be in the playoff, that they lost 63-28 last year will not keep them out. It just won't

I will never pull harder for ND than I will in that game.

Notre Dame is mediocre at best and lost to Michigan last year by 30
Didn't LSU lose to Alabama by 29 in 2018
What happened last year is not relevant to the quality of a team the next season, so stop using it as some "proof" that a team is no good.

No, not their fault. But why do we forgive the ACC for being inept, but not the Sun Belt, American, or MAC.
The ACC is bad relative to the other P5 conferences, the Sun Belt and MAC are lesser competition.

why? a 12-1 ACC champ Clemson would probably be in. They only way they wouldn't is if there were 4 other conference champs that with 0-1 loss. I think that only happened in 2014.

Might as well win the SunBelt and go to the playoffs.

I can't really fault their 2020 schedule. Playing Notre Dame and South Carolina out of conference is a better non-conference lineup than 90% of P5 teams. They can't help their conference being crap.
It's a better non-conference slate than LSU last year. Georgia Southern, Texas, Northwestern State, Utah State.
Their 2021 schedule needs some serious work though.

Until OM, MSU, and Arky start to pick it up the bottom half of the SEC does not look much better than the bottom half of the ACC. With that said the top half of the SEC blows everyone in the ACC but Clemson out of the water.

Their schedule is the reason their defense and Lawrence put up such good numbers.

Oct. 17: NC STATE
Oct. 24: SYRACUSE
Nov. 7: at Notre Dame
Nov. 14: THE CITADEL
Nov. 21: at Wake Forest
Nov. 28: SOUTH CAROLINA
The most embarrassing schedule in the country. We go an easy 12-0

You will never know your team's weakness or character until it is tested in big games. LSU had many throughout the season . Clemson had 2 and almost lost to OSU/NC . I truely believe LSU used that Clemson Vs OSU to find a few weak spots like Clemsons secondary and exposed it in the championship game. LSU was so battle tested by the championship game i believe it was over before it started. I think if you can play at least 3 or 4 big games before the playoff then thats a big advantage. Clemson will not have any of that again this year.

that sounds good and all but the point is to win the title

that's called scouting, you can do that to teams even if they are "battled tested"

LSU was just a better team

how did that work out for Alabama in 2018? A team is not as good as the teams they play, you have to judge teams on their own merits. Clemson played a weak schedule last year, they also beat the high holy frick out of everyone they played after their scare vs UNC. (speaking of UNC, Mack Brown will make them at least good again).

I definitely think that OU wont be getting into the playoffs over other teams with similar records going forward because of their previous performances in the CFP. They might have ended up 5th or even 6th in the SEC last year alone.

quote:exactly. I don't get the hate for Clemson. They're a great team with great players. We should be proud we pounded a great team. Why do we always denigrate the teams we beat? I just don't get it.
It's more their conferences fault for being so shitty.
The ACC was very down last year - but that's not Clemson's fault. Historically, FSU and Va Tech have been top 10 teams, and NC State, Louisville, Virginia, Syracuse, Ga Tech, etc have been respectable. And then throw in ND, which isn't elite but is a respectable team as well.
No need to fault Clemson for the ACC being way down. It's all cyclical - it'll revert to the mean at some point.
