rankings mean absolutely nothing especially at this point
Rankings bring major exposure to your program. If you’re in the top 25 you get a highlight and your score mentioned on every halftime and postgame show. If you aren’t ranked, you’re pretty much forgotten about.

Our net last week was 24, we won 2 games and now our net is 25, lol.
1. Liberty lost twice. Which caused them to tank in the NET rankings. That was our "biggest" win...until they lost
2. NET also takes into account margin of victory and offensive/defensive efficiency ratings (ex. Kenpom). Having several 2-4 point wins (even over bad teams such as A&M and Ole Miss) doesn't help. Plus, LSU's Kenpom ranking has been dropping like a rock during the winning streak because their defensive efficiency rating went from already below average to bad (relative to other power conf. contenders). That's not to say LSU can't improve in the NET rankings. But when you get closer to the top everyone is good and you start splitting hairs in the rankings because it's not often those teams ahead of you are losing. When LSU is scraping by every opponent (regardless of quality) and the teams ahead of them aren't losing, it's hard to move up.
As far as the human polls are concerned, I expect LSU to be ranked 24th or 25th. First, not many teams ahead of them lost last week (excluding Memphis). Second, the big win over Florida was somewhat mitigated by their blowout loss, at home, to Baylor. Still, the human polls are just an irrelevant beauty contest as they have no importance whatsoever.

This. Even in the sec big 12 challenge games we didn’t get any clips shown at halftime because they go through the top 25 and that’s it essentially

Field is weaker this year. So even though last years team was more talented, we may make it further this year.
Especially with having wade on the sideline.

I saw 2 AP voter ballot and neither of them had LSU in the top 25

As with just about any year, it really depends on the matchups. I don't love this team vs. a group that has enough size to mitigate LSU's offensive rebounding prowess (see Miss State) or can pressure the ball and force turnovers. LSU's defense, while somewhat better vs. Texas, still probably isn't good enough to keep opponents from scoring efficiently. It would be a matter of if LSU can just simply outpace and opponent with their own scoring ability. Very few teams this year have been able to prevent LSU from scoring...as long as LSU values the basketball and doesn't turn it over.
Texas got back into the game by pressuring and forcing TO's. And despite good offensive nights, Ole Miss and A&M stayed in the game by forcing LSU to turn it over. For as good as they are offensively, this team seems to have a knack for committing a terrible turnover just at the time they look like they might start to put an opponent away. Then they combine that with not being able to string together several stops (defensively) in a row...leading to a blown lead and a nerve-racking finish.
All that said, no one is probably going to be happy to see LSU pop up as their opponent (assuming LSU reaches the NCAAT). Because despite their moments of absolutely frustrating play, they still have 5 starters, anyone of whom could have a huge scoring night. Very few teams have that. Kind of like the football offense, there's no one guy in LSU's starting 5 you can focus your efforts on. You shut down one, only to find there are 4 others who can easily put up 20+

why wouldn’t we be?
I was at the game (and at the Royal Rumble the next day—what a great weekend), and the team I saw at the Erwin Center is a legit top 25 team. I’m glad to see that you get that impression, too, despite not being able to afford to go to the game.

I’ve missed maybe 20 home games total since 2003
