Twitter for Saints

The question was does he take pride in his offense being emulated at LSU. He was joking saying when he does not know the dynamic there [@LSU] and he was making a mistake. So much for what I know as he is laughing.

Said he is excited for Ed and the staff and that team has been really impressive.

Now sure how he was being a douchebag.

Good Lawd. How are y’all taking offense with THAT? LSU has promised to change before and did not. And, Payton basically wanted Brady to stay and learn.

Jeebus! This fan base is amazing

This year, in particular, this fan base has been acting exactly like they accuse other fanbases of acting.

If I was Sean I would tell the dude whatever lies I could to keep him on staff too.

Jackass? he sounds like a guy who can make fun of himself. That's not all there is, but it is the makings of a good man!

Not only that. He looks for his coaches to get promoted in the NFL and tries not to block them, even if the team is well within their rights (any non head coaching job).

He also allows for his coaches to find new positions instead of publicly embarrassing them. There is a reason the players and coaches love him

Payton didn't want him to leave. So perhaps Payton did know.

Go from an assistant in the NFL to pretty much the same role at a college team. Without knowing if he could actually become the OC at LSU, doesn't look like a best move, career wise.

The backlash on Payton is really weird in this thread

But if someone has already made their decision, it's a pretty jackass thing to tell them that they're making a mistake, whether they are or not. At that point, let them decide for themselves whether it's a mistake or not. That goes for any career field.

Well coaching isn't similar to everywhere, and if I respect the person I have no issues listening to that feedback. I actually seeked it from my boss on my last offer

Add to the fact that O and Payton are friends and O coached under Payton, I think you'd be crazy to think that Payton didn't give O his honest opinion on his ability too (not to mention inviting O and E to practices)

He may just have been basing it all on LSUs passing history and the number of times CHANGES had been previously promised.

I saw honesty and humor ... he did not have to admit what he had said.

What would have been interesting is what would our offense have looked like if Payton was on the staff for a year

There were rumors about it happening, but then the NFL blocked it. So he accepted the job as a 6th grade offensive coordinator

To be fair to Payton, when your 20 something year old offensive assistant says he's leaving the New Orleans Saints to go be the Passing Game Coordinator at LSU of all places, that's a legitimate concern.

Payton does not have an issue retaining coaches.

His biggest issue in the 7-9 seasons was keeping them too long.

He also put Coach O back on his feet after Ole Miss
