Last year, Clemson intercepted Tua by Faking Man coverage.

Then switching to "Eyes on the QB" (Zone) the instant the ball was snapped.
Was very effective.

I'm guessing we are watching that film. I'm also guessing we watched that film a lot before we played Bama in November.

Good thing Burrow is better than Tua and won’t get rattled and fake an injury if he gets picked off once

feels like i've read this same post from you before.
but all joking aside, you are probably on point. Venables will probably play as much zone as they've played all year combined, while showing man

Going to be a chess match. Not going to be easy. Being balanced and establish the running game will be key. CEH and Curry provide great options to gain leverage in the chess match.

The o line has been giving JB the time to not only read presnap but also post snap, he very rarely is just “throwing to a spot” but more to where he knows the receiver will be based on his reads after the snap.

Nice, but it's not as though this is some newfangled idea. Hell, flag football teams do that all the time.

That might work, but Joey B will probably just run it down their throat if they try that.

Good thing Joe is like 30 IQ points smarter than Tua

O knows this. He complimented their DC on his game plan vs Bama in his press conference yesterday

With 5 or 6 players coming on a blitz, I there will be a mixture of zone/man. Joe has picked up those coverages in the past so I expect the same.
Once again, Joe’s ability to feel the rush and from what direction will be key. Uncanny ability to extend plays or when to call a QB keeper.

They zone blitz a lot as well. Joe likely won't get the same look twice in a row.

Jefferson is one of the best route runners in the country and will find the weak spot of the zone. CEH will be crucial as well.

We’re gonna throw a lot of short quick passes to WR’s and CEH. Then run it when we want to

based on this discussion, I can only say I hope we don't run the bunch package as much as we ran it vs Oklahoma.
when we bunch, teams have gotten more pressure on Joe than from any other formation, and it's not close. imho, the reason is because it allows the D to put everyone in the box, so you have no idea who is coming.
sure, we do get some very successful plays out of this formation, but without having the stats I believe we have more failed plays than other formations.

That's just disguise. Tua made a bad call of where he was going pre snap and didn't adjust post snap. He saw the blitz, saw man alignment, but didn't read well enough after snap. I don't see Burrow doing that. Yea he "knows where he's going before the snap" but Burrow is more importantly reading the defense after the snap like an NFL QB. The defense can disguise all they want but after the snap they show you what they're running.

The problem with that is, Joe isn't just a pre snap guy, he's really good in post snap reads also.

The first interception they had of Fields last week was well designed.
Corner Blitz, Simmons looks to be playing the middle safety of a cover 3 (a common look for them) but really is playing cover 2 and his range allows him to work over and get the pick. They have lots of backfield movement for blitz, coverage, after the snap.
They have two weeks to prepare and Venables will have some things worked up for Joe more than any other defense he's faced.
Joe will have to make quick reads and good decisions. He's been one of the best I've ever seen doing that, but he's been fooled before too. And every time they do something confusing it will open something up - Joe just has to find it (and have the time to find it).
Joe and the WR will need to be on the same page in their reads too.
