I took down my pole beans this weekend because they were out of control and I'm tired of shelling butter beans. I might go ahead and replant some snap beans on the trellis. Also finally had the heart to cut down the Cherokee Purples. They quit producing and most of the vine was brown, but them made so much this year I had a hard time giving up on them. the beefsteak, on the other hand, are still putting on fruit. I'll likely start looking around for my broccoli plants this week.

I'm about to give up on anything growing this summer. I got a late start since my seeds would sprout, then weirdly seem to die off overnight. My second round of seeds did great with tomatoes, and I put a few things in the ground but I think it was too late. Going to till it all under and start fresh for fall. What things should I be looking to start now or within the next couple of weeks? I'm in the Birmingham area, and it looks like zone 8A, if that makes a difference.
I think this weekend I'm busting out the tiller again and going with seeds in the ground. Just got home yesterday from being gone a week, and was expecting to come home to either dead tomato plants or still no blooms. Lo and behold, there were several blooms on all of the 7 plants I have out on the deck. We got some monster rain here last week while I was gone, according to my neighbor, so I got lucky they're surviving.

That's how I'm starting to feel about my Japanese Yard Long beans on one of my trellises. I've probably picked about 2000 of them since they started coming in and I've got all I need canned or in the freezer and most of my neighbors are not wanting any more of them.
I'm averaging about 70 beans a day and they are in the 20-24 inch range when picked.

those things were awesome for a couple weeks, then I got overwhelmed by them too

They are great grilled like asparagus, cooked down like any other type green bean, but don't pickle worth a damn is my experience. I've got quite a few quart jars of them simply blanched and used a pressure cooker to process them for later use.
When I tried pickling them I would cut them in lengths to fit a quart jar, pack them in as tight as I could, make my brine and after bringing it to a boil, I'd pour it over the beans then put the jars in a hot water bath for 20 minutes. Then remove the jars to cool and seal.
I found the beans got very leathery and not like regular bush or pole beans when pickled.

Bacon wrapped jalapeños and carmen peppers with cream cheese fresh out of the air fryer.

I’m gonna have to can jalapeños again this weekend. I’m tired of fooling with them and the yard long beans. Put more okra in the ground. Going to stock freezer at duck camp.

Same. I'll probably let them ride till the end of the month and then pull them.
I started spreading some Black Kow over a few of my empty rows yesterday to replenish the soil. I didn't work it in yet. I just laid it on top. After doing that I was soaking wet with sweat and about to die. And this was late in the afternoon when the sun was going down. This heat needs to calm the hell down.

Yep it’s good, a bit more earthy.
My kids called it dragon brocolli

Same here. Cleaned out all of the beds except for the peppers. Added composted manure to all the cleaned beds. Then build a 2'x 36' raised bed along the fence for strawberries. Also had to change clothes three times because I looked like I had jumped into a pool. Yeah that heat was BAD last weekend.

Any idea what this is on my blueberries?
Posted on 7/15/20 at 7:56 am to PTBob
More than likely some sort of caterpillar eggs. I’ve seen similar on a lot of my plants, but usually on the underside of leaves.

Those look delicious! I am almost done with the yard long beans too. Man, those suckers produce. My husband likes me to make green bean casserole with them. I blanched and froze 3 gallons of them. We'll see how that turns out.
I am planting sugar snap peas in their place this fall.

Might be what they call smell melons or buffalo gourds, they grow wild in the ditches of sugar cane fields, I used to pick them all the time when I was younger dove hunting we would throw them up and shoot em like skeet lol. I have heard that you can graft a cucumber plant on that vine and it will grow cucumbers .
