I don't get it when the pilot says "we can makeup for lost time in the air."

Whenever a pilot says that, obviously that means they'll go faster. My question: why not just go fast all the time then?
Also why do planes board from front to back? People just sneak in on different zones anyway. Trying to get to the Delta Comfort section and all these slow moving boomers in first class are taking their precious time getting situated.

Fuel efficiency.

Overhead bin space. And the efficient ways of boarding are so drastically different than what people are used to that no companies are willing to try them.

Making up time in the air is burning more fuel.

That’s why I only employ ex military pilots. Their punctuality is second to none!

Serious question - are you new to flying?

Ah yes, the people that can afford $1,000 for first class seats but can't be bothered to pay to check in the bag that is clearly larger than the measurements Delta requires for carry on. It's why I never see people testing it in those carry on measurement stands near the gates.
ETA: Though I understand people who do this on Spirit because they make you pay for carry ons.

I could be wrong, but I always thought it had to do with the time between point A and point B is a set time by the airline, FAA or someone. Just like when you plug an address into your GPS and it says you arrive at a certain time, based on how often you drive that route or use the GPS, you know in the back of your mind you can shave time off. For example, I drove from BR to Jackson MS today and shaved 15 mins off of what the GPS said when I plugged it in.

It's funny that Southwest is much more efficient in their boarding process without assigned seats than the other carriers are with assigned seats.

Nah, it saves fuel because you're in the air less time.
Similar to driving 120mph vs 60mph.

Yeah, but once the poors get settled in and have a Manhattan made with some cheap bourbon with a screwtop bottle, they have see and smell the destitute as they make their way back to steerage.
These are not concerns on the G6.
