Fisher left FSU with a losing record. Yes, he was frustrated with the apparent lack of support from the university administration, but it still does not reflect well on him. He may have success at A&M, but he will not be the end all and be all. I do think he will be better than 7-5. This year’s schedule for him was brutal.
His record at FSU was greatly helped by being in a weak conference, with no real competition. Given the circumstances, he somewhat underperformed. This year’s results shouldn’t be surprising. He would have to have a top 10 or better team going into the season to have done any better, which he didn’t have. But he isn’t worth $75 million guaranteed. I wasn’t enamored with him for the HC at LSU. And he would not have made the changes that O has made to make LSU the most prolific offense ever at LSU.
That said, I wasn’t blown away by O as the choice, but didn’t want Herman either. I am very happy with the result and proud of what Coach O has become and what he has accomplished.

Just a handful of things, and by that I mean not much (not much at all as you suggest, this most recent time), would have had to go differently and Jimbo was almost the head coach at LSU on three separate occasions.
It just wasn't meant to be (and two times were completely on him). His loss.
