The OT has a hard on for social media. It’s soooo above it.
Ironic since this is literally social media.

Or for people who moved away from family and want to celebrate the holiday.
Not everyone remains within a 2 hour radius of where they grew up.

Damn, some of y'all are some miserable, salty fricks. I've been going to friendsgivings before social media became a thing. I like hanging out with my friends, and it gives us an excuse to get together and eat seasonal food. It's a lot better than Thanksgiving with my boring family.

quote:I see no issues with Friendsgiving at all, but you're saying your son is in high school and "nominated" your house as the site?
We’re very fortunate that our son and his classmates have known each other for 15 years , since preschool. They are at the house probably 4 days of the week, girls and guys just hanging out . So we’ve been nominated , I guess to be the site for this years Friendsgiving dinner .
I guess the only question I'd have is is your son going to do all the work for prep and the day of?
Definitely seems a bit odd for high schoolers to do it but again no issue. And I'd go as far as to say not really an issue to use your house, I'd use it as an excuse to head to a bar to watch a game or go golfing if it's during the day or whatever.
But I'd expect to not pay or help with anything if it's just the kids party, let them have the your house as the venue provided they're doing all the work and footing the bill.

We did this in 1992, but didn't use the word Friendsgiving. It was a group of about 10 of us that were in college together. We cooked the same things and did the same things as we would have normally done with family. I'm not sure why someone felt the need to add the word friends - it's still just Thanksgiving.

Its so women can post a bunch of pics to social media and nothing more
Or just a good time to spend time with the friends who are just as close to you as your relatives and have likely made more of an impact on your life than your 3rd aunt you have to invite to thanksgiving every year

OP started this thread because he has no friends. SHOCKER.

It is to show thanks with all your friends--some who are like, if not more than, family to you. What's so difficult to understand about this?

What’s the deal with Friendsgiving
If they are your friends you shouldn't need a dedicated day....just more bullshite made up to show off.

Sounds like you have shitty friends. We all get drunk and have a blast together.

The concept is just an excuse to be social and hang out with friends. I know that is difficult concept for some to grasp. Naming it Friendsgiving is kinda silly though, I agree.

Another bullshite holiday

Well, sometimes it's just better to steer clear of family bullshite and you have friends that are kinda in the same situation. So you meet up and enjoy a peaceful situation, like holidays are supposed to be.

its way more fun than any other holiday for me. If you're a young adult without a bunch of kids and a good group of friends, its the perfect excuse to eat good/great food and let loose.
