Needs more parking

I’ve flown out 3 times and there are always a ton of parking spaces available when I’ve flown out and when I’ve returned.

I’ve flown 2x and picked someone up once. Didn’t have any problems. Security was quick. Took an Uber once and it was easy. No huge line or long wait.

Only issue I experienced was limited seating outside of security if you are waiting for people arriving.

Wife flew out last Wednesday and came back Saturday. She had zero issues. Very pleasant experience.

Needs more parking but the old garages have a shuttle service that is working great.

So for long term parking just go to the old one? Flying out early Saturday and coming back Monday night.

I still think that all the problems at the airport were planned. Just another way to keep to tourists in the city longer and to milk them to charge them an arm and a leg for food and a spleen and a kidney for drinks.

I have been 3 times since it has opened. All of my trips have been without issue or delay.
-used short term parking and it was a breeze
-used the clear lane for security and longest total time was 3 mins
-no elevator in sky club so did carry a bag upstairs
-no issues boarding or with outbound flight delays
-no issues with arriving flights
-left short term garage easily

Notes-
- I never EVER check bags unless I need to
- I only park at the airport and don’t do Lyft/Uber given I live further away from the airport.

If you're an airport, I do wonder what the optimum amount of clusterfrick is to maximize revenue. You can't have people standing at security forever all the time - if that's happening the customer isn't spending money and they're just ticked off.

But on the other hand, you can't be so consistently quick and easy that people start pulling into the parking garage 45 minutes before takeoff. (i.e me in BTR).

Seems like you would need one good, non-justifiable, newsworthy, screw up every 6 months or so. Just enough to keep people coming to the airport 2 hours early, but overall providing a quick an easy experience for 95% of the travelers going through there.

Traffic going out is horrible. Uber/Lyft issues are still horrible. Basically everything inside is fine. Everything outside is horrible. Went there around 4 pm

Coming from the Northshore, just go to the old long term parking garage like normal and take a shuttle to the new terminal?

It’s really nice.

MSY is not a hub so the # of passengers waiting around for connecting flights will be minimal. So they have to find other ways to get travelers to spend money at all those fancy new food options. Obviously they did not expect the magnitude of glitches that they experienced on opening weekend. However, I do believe that now they are fine tuning number of glitches right now in order to have the optimal number of glitches in order maximize the amount of time spent at the airport without it becoming unbearable. That way they can maximize nonflight related revenue during the holidays, CFB championship, and Mardi Gras.

Aside from the already-known traffic frickery, the only real issue I see is that they need some sort of dimming feature for the windows on the concourses (for those that haven't been yet almost all of the exterior walls for the concourses are floor-to-ceiling windows). The afternoon/evening sun is blinding.

All other issues I've encountered were just employees getting used to the new place and not having gotten routines down efficiently yet.

Anyone used park and fly since the new airport opened? I'm curious on the shuttle times with the move.

Pickup is still bad at peak hours. At the old airport the cabs and shuttles would go right in front and passenger pickup lanes were outside with Uber and Lyft inside transportation center. At the new airport they have the cabs and passengers being picked up in lane closest to building which is a cluster because all the cars basically block the cabs so they are trying to get out when cars are trying to get in backing up every thing including the ride shares in the second lane.

I would tell someone getting picked up to take the rental car shuttle over to old terminal and get picked up there. Save a lot of headache.

Bump Update:
Flew out and back last week. The new airport is a wonderful experience. Concourses are huge, easy to get from place to place, full service ChickFilA inside too. Nice bars to kill time at. The snack places have a ton of choices and healthier options. Restrooms are huge and clean. Parking is much nicer, spaces are easy to find and they have a cool sensor system that shows you where spaces are available. Getting in from Loyola was a non issue, and you actually feel like you’re driving to a real airport.

Only real complaint was TSA, it “alarmed” on my sons baby food and the girl got really shitty with my wife. But they can’t replace the people that worked TSA with the new airport, so that’s probably the only shitty thing that carried over.

I have flown out 3 times now, all no problems at all. The airport is a HUGE upgrade from what we had before. In regards to food options I think MSY is now the best in the country. It is a very cool airport.

Put this is another thread but evening flights out are brutal. Had a 530 flight last night on Southwest and the sun is a killer. They need some shades to block that thing because it’s friggin blinding
