We have 25 members in our club and all but about 7 will shoot a doe. We kill 20 bucks and maybe 7 does a year. We are only allowed each 1 doe and 3 bucks 8pt or better. Your first buck can be a 6pt but if you shoot an 8pt first, you are 8pt or better.

I kill a doe every year because our herd has too many. If i don't kill it I let my wife kill it or a guest. It's meat. I have killed numerous 8pts but nothing worth bragging on.

Would love to hear who came up with this rule and the reasoning behind it

We've implemented a rule the last 2 years: Gotta kill at least 2 does before you can take a buck.

There's just too dang many deer. If you don't thin the does out early then you're not gonna see all of your bucks later.

When I first joined over 20 years ago (its all family and friends in this club) if it was brown it was down.

The herd was depleted and it was hard for many members to see a deer. So we went to DMAP and they told us to shoot as many does as we could. Well we started seeing more bucks but small racks.

Years later we went buck of choice (spike on up), 6pt or better, 1 doe. Started seeing better deer.

Then we went to 6pt/8pt or better. Members were still killing does and the monster bucks were being seen /killed 1-2 per year or every other year.

Years ago every member tried to kill a doe. They decided to make it a trophy club. We have good deer on the lease but it's seldom they are ever killed because nobody wants to shoot a doe. They want horns.

The big bucks dont roam far because there are does everywhere. We average a huge buck about once every 5 years. The rest are 2.5 year old 8pts. Maybe a 3.5 yr old. Those big ones aren't coming around as often.

I have a doe and fawn at one stand. They both came out 1st weekend of bow season. Fawn still had a few spots on shoulder and rump. Didn't take a shot. While watching the fawn tried to nurse and Doe kicked at it. So this weekend if my son gets a shot he will take her out for youth hunt.

QDMA says a fawn can survive alone after 45-60 days.
