thank you for responding brother
the suicide rates always concern me. especially the young men who are taking their lives.
the first step is to step aside, and gain a better vantage point.
now that we're there, maybe eventually we can begin to piece together solutions.
we are all degenerates i fear, and all of us are coping.
meaning us, in humans in the modern world... too adultered by our infrastructures, too ingrained in our needs.
And we are spoiled, unwilling and uncapable to give up our comfort for freedom, if even we could do that

This is actually pretty much the First of the Four Noble Truths in Buddhism: life always involves suffering; even when times are good, there is still anxiety lurking.
The rest extend from there:
- That suffering is caused by our cravings and desires (for wealth, sex, materials, security, safety, whatever)
- Suffering can end by freeing ourselves from such cravings and desires
- Following the noble path in life will free ourselves from cravings and desires, and suffering

Lol, really? Yeah they call drugs dope because they cause a flood of dopamine

“The happiness of those who want to be popular depends on others; the happiness of those who seek pleasure fluctuates with moods outside their control; but the happiness of the wise grows out of their own free acts.“
“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts: therefore, guard accordingly, and take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature”
“We live only now. Everything else is either passed or is unknown.”
Or you can be like me at nearly 40 and get on TD to argue with a bunch of 20 year olds to stay happy

Satisfaction = Results - Expectations

I like when cool shite happens though.

Long term sustained happiness is not the attainable goal. Happiness is a transient feeling. It comes and goes largely based on external circumstances.
Contentment and well-being are the long-term attainable goals. Those are intrinsic states of being that are not dependent on external circumstances.
Yes- dopamine stimulation may be a diminishing returns scenario leading to smaller “happiness highs”. But when the foundation for those highs is contentment, the individual can enjoy the dopamine release and then still be content when it fades. And that should be the goal. Living a life if basic contentment such that external circumstances certainly can affect mood, but those are temporary states. Once those is gone and life is back at baseline, it’s still good.

I see some of what you’re talking about, and IMO the only antidote is having a family.
The real depressing thing is how much luck is involved in pairing up with someone with whom you’re truly compatible enough to spend decades together, sharing your lives, and creating/shaping new ones.

I'm not always happy, nor do I pretend to be. Plenty of shite happens in life. But I dont care to go through life being in a bad mood all the time, simple as that.

You have to hate your life to love your life

All emotions are a fleeting feeling, the goal is being content.

I’d like to test a theory, but first I’ll need LSU to beat Florida and Alabama!

I agree with this sentiment.
The first time you do something you love, you’re extremely happy. By the time you do it for the 100th time, you’re not nearly as happy as you were the first time and/or probably tired of it by now.

It's not going to take nearly 500 years. It isn't going to take 50. Probably closer to 15 than 50.

There is a very good reason why hanging by yourself usually is pretty relaxing and nice.

All I know is that I had a stressful week! I am glad it is over and right now I am happy.
