Did CBS let ESPN have the FLA game to get LSU vs Bama at night in a new deal?

The decision to pick bama vs A&M over LSU vs FLA was strange. Even if FLA had lost, it still would have been a bigger game than bama vs A&M.

Is it possible that CBS brokered some new deal with ESPN to get an extra night game for a potential Game of the Century Part II?

Yeah I'd put money on that being the case.

Which also means LSU/Aub may end up being a night game.

We may have lucked out with this.

Probably but it all depends on LSU being undefeated at that time, which means they have to get through Fla and Auburn first.

Agreed. Really hoping this ends up being the case. But the Tiger Bowl is on a very down SEC week. If I had to lean one way I'd lean they probably paid ESPN some cash (or will) and gave them this game preemptively instead of waiting until next season like they did in 2011/2012 with the South Carolina game.

Yeah CBS giving up LSU-Florida and LSU-Auburn could be an attractive package for ESPN to take. And we benefit.

My thoughts are there was some deal worked out to give ESPN UF-LSU and AUB-LSU in exchange for getting BAMA-LSU prime time.

ESPN has nothing to do with CBS’s game choices and them trying to get LSU Bama game at night. CBS has to work out a deal with whoever they have scheduled to run on CBS for that timeframe, and work something out with them.

Wrong. Because our deal is with two networks they work in tandem. CBS is only allowed 1 primetime game because otherwise they'd be competing regularly with ESPN and ABC. Part of the contract prevents that. However, this being America there is allowed to be negotiation. CBS gets an extra game but they need to pony up to make ESPN say yes. They offer them a lesser albeit still good game as well as some money.

ETA: Which is exactly what happened in 2011 when the original primetime game was Alabama Florida. LSU Alabama became a HUGE game and CBS wanted it in primetime. So they gave up a game to ESPN (2012 USC-LSU game) and a bunch of money.

This is not correct.

Did you forget about the 2011 bama game?

CBS Works Trade With ESPN To Move Heavily Anticipated LSU-Alabama Matchup To Primetime

quote:

CBS' SEC deal "allows it to air one SEC game each season in prime time," and the Oct. 1 Alabama-Florida game was "picked well before the season" began. The net was able to move LSU-Alabama from its previously scheduled 3:30pm ET time slot through what CBS Sports Exec VP/Programming Mike Aresco "says was a trade with ESPN, which has an SEC primetime TV deal."

Likely the normal TV selection time 2 weeks before the game.

No, not at all. CBS sucks the teet of bama and that's the only team Gary D wants to cover. They want bama as many times as they're allowed and so they'll take bama and A&M since it "appears" to be a matchup.

Don't believe any of that nonsense. They just want their bama.

This is dumber than the guy saying CBS has to work it out with NCIS reruns.

Yeah, their bottom line doesn't matter at all in this.

I would rather play during the day. It's not a home game.
