Didn't Todd Graves, who used to work at Gurthrie's (Athens, GA), just use their exact same recipe and business models?

Yes. Both Zaxby's and Raising Cane's are copies of Guthrie's.

Guthrie's (now HQ'd in Auburn), started in Haleyville, Alabama in 1965 as a typical southern meat & three place. They began focusing on chicken fingers in the late 70s before opening satellite stores in college towns (Auburn in 1982 and Athens in 1984).
