Pros- Cook anything like baking, smoking or roast. Superior temperature control.

Cons- $$$$ and can't get the temperature to grill or sear

Thread! Personally, I think they are awesome. It's damn near like a crockpot/oven but you get a smoke flavor.

Of all the set it and forget it style smokers, these are best. Far better than electrics. Taste wise using a equal level cooks, these will produce on the same level as ceramic smokers easy.

Is Traeger the best?

No, but they are the most common. Yoder is the best brand I have personally seen, but you're going to pay for it. I have the YS640s, and it is amazing.

The Pit Boss I had before it was perfectly adequate, but this Yoder is a class above. It's a better value I think than the Traeger.

Pro: It's super easy and it's almost impossible to burn something unless you completely forget about it. You really don't even need to flip the meat.

Con: You won't get the same kind of crisp on the outside that you will over direct heat.

I'm looking at the Pit Boss Vertical ones. Does anyone make a better vertical pellet smoker? I already have a big NG grill. This would replace/complement my WSM.

I had a traeger for about 8 years, used it at least every other day during that period. Finally gave it to a coworker of mine. I was going to get another traeger but ended up with a pit boss. Its half the price but what sold me on it was the sear feature. It has a plate that slides that allows you to cook directly over the flame. Its a game changer in my opinion. Cook burgers and steaks on it and it does great. Plus it has all the conveniences of the typical pellet smoker. I am not sure how long it will last because it appears slightly lower quality but if I get 3-4 year out of it I will be happy with it. I am a true convert to the pellet smokers, best way to cook. End up cooking entire meals on it, meat, veggies and everything in between.

Basically this. But, I can grill burgers or something like that on mine. I just can't get a good sear on a steak. I like cooking my steaks using my sous vide/cast iron anyway, so it's not a big deal to me.

Not even close, Yoder is probably the most well known high end. Best I would say is MAK grills, but they are extremely pricey for a decent size.

Yoders are the best but a Traeger will run you about $700 while a basic Yoder is $1500.

MAK starts at $1800

They tend to have higher customer satisfaction and less weak points than the Yoders. Yoder has gotten blasted for cheaping out on some parts.

Don't forget Green Mountain Grills. Love mine. Will go all night on one hopper fill. Plenty of smoke, pizza attachment that gets up to 800 degrees, not overly expensive. I think I paid 575 for mine. You can grill and sear on it but I don't do that because I don't want to deal with the cleanup.

I love brisket but I also love sleep. Pellet grills fricking rock for that. But I do still drink beer and babysit my cue like a real pit boss (because you can still easily frick it up).

I honestly cannot think of a con. One of the better purchases I've made.

I just bought a Pit Boss on sale.
I have charcoal, gas, and a smoker, I'm pumped to fire this baby up.

What about the smoke flavor? I’ve heard that most pellet grills lack on smoke flavor.
