I was out of town last week and ate at a chain... Why because Chick Fil A is a safe choice while road tripping it..

Damn. I thought EastCoastBand was dumb, but you might have eclipsed her stupidity with this statement.

Go without them. Or, pick off one from the group, preferably female and go.

This is why I love these threads.

Was in training in a northern suburb of Atlanta. A big group of us from the same company, but different locations across the US. Our last night there and we wanted to go to a nice, local restaurant. This 50 something year old dude in the group said “naw, we need to go to Outback.” Lol.

Some people don’t know how to spend their per diem. I have found that no matter where I am that I can found some good local spots. One of the best meals I had all year was in a hole in the wall in Yazoo City, MS.

If I’m out of town for work, then I’ve usually been in meetings all day, and just want to grab something quick and alone. 9 times out of 10 there is some generic chain I can walk to from the hotel so I go there and then back to my room.
I actually enjoy the peace and quiet of the hotel with no worries, kids, distractions, and relaxation. I just wish the channels on the TV would turn faster.
I guess I used to travel a lot and got my routine down. I always laughed at the guys going nowhere that treated work trips like bachelor party vacations.

Yeah, worrying about what they are doing and whining on a message board about it.
Go eat where you want you fricking pussy. Or STFU and go with them to BWW. Maybe you aren’t quite the foodie you think you are and they know it.
Don’t come here for affirmation. Just go do it.

I am reading this thread sitting by myself eating supper at a cool little microBrew restaurant In Vernal, Utah
I never eat at chains on the road unless a customer insists, i always ask the hotel desk clerk and check yelp

Personally I do not like going to chain restaurants at all. That doesn't mean I will end up at one from time to time... Locally..
But I refuse to go somewhere and eat somewhere I can eat any other time. But for a lot of people its familiarity. They might not love the food at places like BWW, Chills, etc but they are familiar with it and the food is good enough for them to go and feel comfortable about going there.
With that said, I can understand going to a chain if its a work trip and its a group of people. That way, everyone knows what to expect, feels more comfortable, etc...
This.

People want stability. People want what’s known. People, for the most part, want predictable.

I am from LA and live in Houston
Part of it is people are just accustomed to eating shitty food and chain is a safe bet for getting something decent.

If you can’t find good food that’s not expensive then you need to re-think things

For me it generally depends on where I am and how my day has been. I’m often in mediocre suburban town where there may be a local restaurant with good reviews 4 miles away in traffic. Or I can walk across the parking lot and get Longhorn.

Nobody said you have to eat with them

If that's the cheesiest thing you've ever done, life's going to be terribly disappointing for you. You haven't scratched the surface
