Jesus.
Baton = what the police beat someone with as needed.
Batten = to secure
Batten down the hatches = Nautical term for securing all open portals on the deck of a ship in anticipation of severe weather.

That’s silly, it’s “batting down the hashes”.
Meaning you’d go outside and use a bat to pack the ground around your hashes.
I thought everyone knew that

batten down the hatches- to prepare for difficult times. (From a nautical expression meaning, literally, to seal the hatches against the arrival of a storm.
y'all are both sorta right, and sorta wrong..

This year's buzz word has been convection
Don't think I have ever heard it used more than in the last 24 hours.

Depending on where you live:
‘’It’s not the wind, it’s the water.’’
‘’It’s not water, it’s the wind.’’
‘’It’s not the wind, it’s the water.’’
‘’It’s not water, it’s the wind.’’

Social media is unbearable today.
Everybody thinks they’re a fricking comedian about the storm

Between one moron calling another a wishcaster and someone talking about a hurricane getting its shite together....who do you punch in the face first? It’s REAL close for me.

When it passes, people with damage will be “putting their lives back together.”

“Shelter in place.” Where the hell else I’m gonna shelter?

The fact that every single person finds it necessary to tell you that the east side of the storm is the worst.
GOAT cliche
And not necessarily true for NOLA. Being just west of the eye basically means the lake gets pushed into the city.

“Shelter in place.”
It’s not place, as in a place. The saying originates from town of Place, France.
Place was the site of the only fortified town in the general area. Roving hordes of barbarians were known to attack the people, so when they were on the warpath the people would go shelter within the walls of Place.
Hence, “Shelter in Place.”

"Inundated". One of the most over used words.
