The Mariners will call up catcher/utility infielder Austin Nola to the majors, manager Scott Servais told reporters following tonight’s game. Nola will take the roster spot left open after Edwin Encarnacion was traded to the Yankees earlier today.
This will mark the first time that the 29-year-old Nola has appeared in the big leagues, following an eight-year professional career largely spent in Miami’s farm system.

After being let go by the Marlins after the 2018 campaign, Nola has hit an impressive .327/.415/.520 with seven home runs over 229 PA for Triple-A Tacoma. While Nola is older than a lot of his competition and it’s probably unlikely he’s a late bloomer, his success has nevertheless earned him a trip to the Show.
Nola brings some unusual versatility to Seattle’s bench, as he shifted to catching in 2017 after primarily playing middle infield for his first several seasons. Most of Nola’s work has come behind the plate over the last three seasons, though he has also seen time at both corner infield spots.

How many of us would chase it that long? I wish I had that kind of ambition.

If he can stick around for 43 days he qualifies for a MLB pension.

I hope he can wow some people and secure himself a spot for at least a couple of years in the bigs. I always liked Nola the elder.

With more luck, he'd have gotten his shot back in 2014. I'm happy for him.

frick yea! I respect the perseverance and drive to make it that he must have grinded with this long to finally make it. I always love it when a career minor leaguer makes it up to the bigs after years of grinding it out. Love that its an ex LSU player even more. I wasnt even aware that Nola was still playing. Good for him.

Damn, 8 years. That's great. Hopefully its not just a Moonlight Graham situation.

Even if he doesn’t stick, the difference in accomplishment between a career minor leaguer and a guy who “made it to the show” is huge! Congratulations to a classy Tiger.

This.
Imagine the personal satisfaction and pride that comes with being able to say “I made it”. Nobody can ever take that away. 1 game or 10 seasons, he is a big leaguer. Congrats to him.

One of my favorite players ever. I hope he gets up there and they see value in his versatility. Would love to see him stick

The "couldn't happen to a better guy" cliche has never been more true. M's are in Houston weekend of the 26th. Looking into making the trip.

AAA players make a good living so it doesn't cost anything to stick around.

Being willing to put in the work for position changes is huge.
It should help him that he is a multi-position player.
Hope he enjoys the fruits of his efforts, and becomes a tv feature story.

Fairly true. People tend to focus on the first contract guys when talking about minor league pay.
Vets aren’t going to be set for life playing minor league ball, but they do make decent money for 6-7 months of work.
