let me get this straight - the government said the air was safe to breathe, so now we want the government to be the ones to care for them? That makes no sense.
No. They want the MONEY to be able to live and treat their issues.

How is that possible? How have they spent $5 billion? I mean I guess they just pay whatever is asked for by our broken system.
That is exactly what my biggest beef with this is.
Just keep throwing money at them to shut them up for a couple more years.

No.
We want the government to provide them with the funds that will make it easier for them to get the professional care they need without going bankrupt.

They haven't. He's blowing smoke out of his arse. Congress initially agreed to pay out $7 billion when this relief fund first started. It hasn't paid out anywhere close to that amount because it turns out there were never enough funds allocated for it.
$5 billion is 2 billion less than 7 billion.

Are the Fed's paying the medical bills of a firefighters in Chicago with meso?

They haven’t spent it all. They have spent half.
There were at least 11000 that filed LAST YEAR.
Do the math.

Why is it that we automatically assume the government should give us free stuff any time we need help instead of relying on neighbors, friends, and private donations for things like this? Once again, the government created this mess in the first place. Why should we assume they’re capable of righting it? They’re not. And these people will just keep coming back year after year asking for a few billion dollars here and there.

How much money do 69 rounds of chemotherapy cost?
Don't get me wrong. I support making them whole after that horrible trauma, but what treatments are they getting and why?

Yep. Libertarians are no less immoral than the progressive socialists whom they hate so much.
I'm a libertarian, don't group me in with this a-hole. I don't care how libertarian you are, they were hurt while performing labor for their employer, they should be compensated by their employer. Under their employment contract, contract law being something libertarians respect and hold up, they are entitled to be compensated

A true libertarian would never support federal spending that is not explicitly authorized under the constitution. If we’re so determined to have Big Brother take care of them, it should be done at the state and local level. And anytime the federal government gets involved in something like this, it is a form of discrimination. You’re essentially allowing the government to pick which firefighters and city employees to provide aid to. What about other first responders in cities all over the country who are suffering from related illnesses? They don’t deserve a few billion dollars from the government?

NYC firefighters are not federal employees.

18 years later how the hell can they even prove these maladies were caused by where they were on 9/11. It's not like cancer is terribly rare.
A lot of these guys have been having health problems for 16-17 years. Were you born an asswipe??????

Exactly.
btw-I'm not a libertarian.

Jon Stewart delivered an epic speech in front of Congress today on behalf of the 9/11 first responders. This shouldn't be a partisan issue. These men and women need our help.

What about the 11,000, a number someone else threw out, that signed up last year?
It's a money grab.

Well I would say conservative, but that word doesn’t mean anything anymore. Conservative used to mean following the constitution. Now both liberals and people who call themselves conservatives support massive government spending, depending on their issue of choice. It’s the reason we’re trillions of dollars in debt.
Posted on 6/11/19 at 4:18 pm to DyeHardDylan
Yep. Spending is all good when it makes them feel good.
This is not an issue for the Federal government as the people in question were not employed by the Feds.
