California lawmakers agree to health benefits for immigrants

California will become the first state to pay for some adults living in the country illegally to have full health benefits as the solidly liberal bastion continues to resist the policies of Republican President Donald Trump's administration.
Democrats in the state Legislature reached an agreement Sunday afternoon as part of a broader plan to spend $213 billion of state and federal tax money over the next year. The legislature is expected to approve the deal this week. The agreement means low-income adults between the ages of 19 and 25 living in California illegally would be eligible for California's Medicaid program, the joint state and federal health insurance program for the poor and disabled.
Only those in that age group whose incomes are low enough to qualify for the program would get the health benefits. State officials estimate that group will be about 90,000 people at a cost of $98 million per year.
Oh boy

This is irresponsible because it encourages illegal immigration
This isn't a model that works. Not even Canada does this. In fact most of the EU only allows for urgent life saving care but otherwise requires migrants to purchase private insurance. My prediction is that this law is vastly underestimating the cost and California will reverse the law when the true cost becomes politically unpopular or a recession hit requiring the raising of taxes to continue paying for it.

The one advantage is that when these illegals go to the hospital, the medical providers don't have to eat those costs.

A broke bankrupt state approves more government spending. Shocking.

Expect Californias a to be flooded with even many more illegals.
Well done, Trump

They are going to bankrupt themselves.

Trump needs to revoke all of CA's federal money now.

As long as they flock to Cali I am good with it. These people need to experience the consequences of their idiotic policy decisions

BS it will be so much higher than that.

Like moths to a flame...
I'd suspect the illegals will flock there even more in bigger droves.
Obviously is not sustainable at all but Cali is such a shitehole

your "headline" is misleading. There is nothing odd, generally speaking, about immigrants receiving MediCal.
A correct subject-line would have "illegal immigrants" in it instead.

Do what now? Their budget for 2019-2020 is projected to have a ~$15 billion surplus.

I would think they would want to try to improve their homeless problem before giving handouts to illegal immigrants. Priorities....

California seems more focused with helping illegals than their own citizens

These people just regurgitate what Fox and Rush tell them. Compare Alabama's finances and federal money with California and see which one is a true shithole. I'm neither democratic or Republican FWIW.

I fully support this. Can't wait for the avg bleeding heart do-gooder to feel the economic pain.
