I say over.
I'd bet the over, too. But if he can't get past 5 innings the next three starts...

Hope George gets back soon. He's definitely the engine pulling the train. Last two lineups have been putrid.

Hes supposed to be back tonight. We'll see.
More concerning is Altuve. He did fielding and batting drills earlier this week and they had mentioned targeting a rehab assignment this weekend. Its this weekend and theres no word on him going out to rehab.

Yeah, when they announced this weekend, a DAT’er (probably accurately) predicted Tuesday or Wednesday.

Luhnow is set in ways of not moving any top prospects to get guys and Nationals would demand that.
Then he needs to start giving these guys opportunities or theyll lose them to Rule 5. Round Rock is becoming a choke point.

This is not accurate. For example, Verlander trade was costly in prospects. But it's the exception because the Astros are not going to trade big prospects for a high salary guy again. That's why controllable pitchers like Syndergaard and Caleb Smith or rentals like MadBum make sense. The luxury tax looms so they need to commit their big money longer term wisely.
Actually it is accurate. We've never given away top high end prospects in the Luhnow era. None of those in the Verlander deal were guys that were seen as "untouchables"

Franklin Perez was regarded on the same level as Whitley at the time but he’s been hurt ever since. Jake Rogers is gonna end up being the jewel from the deal for the tigers.

Bring him home. 26 years old and only making $600000/yr. Change of scenery, and a new league would probably do wonders. Come the end of July, the Mets will start to die on the vine.

Perez was regarded highly, but I do not remember him being on the Whitley level. Rogers will be a steal, but he wasn't on that level either.
ETA: I'm not saying I'm not wrong, I just do not remember Whitley / Tucker / Correa / Bregman / Alvarez buzz around him.
He was 54 midseason of 2017, Fisher was 50, Martes was 31, Tucker was 19 FYI

Perez was a top 50 overall prospect in baseball. Maybe not quite the level of Whitley but I would definitely say he’s high end
Posted on 5/24/19 at 1:29 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
See link above. I knew I was not crazy. He wasn't even in our top 3 of prospects.
Posted on 5/24/19 at 1:30 pm to Rabbs and QStick
You said we don’t trade high end prospects. I would consider a top 50 prospect a high end prospect. It’s all semantics
Posted on 5/24/19 at 1:31 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
According to that he wasn't top 50
ETA: Ok ok I will stop doing my Ryno impression now.

He was in the winter between 17 and 18 a few months after the deal. I think he was top 30 or 35 in baseball America at that time. They don’t rerank every prospect when one gets traded. You can use whatever rankings and time periods to fit your argument but trying to act like Perez wasn’t highly touted is just false. He was like 19 at the time he got dealt as well and the highest upside arm in our system.
Posted on 5/24/19 at 1:36 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
I'm just arguing to say he was on same level as a Tucker or Whitley though is completely false also. I've never seen him ranked like them 2 have been and that's what I meant by top prospects.
Posted on 5/24/19 at 1:39 pm to Rabbs and QStick
I agree with you they haven’t traded guys who are typically regarded as top 10 overall types. The Astros are hardly unique in that regard. You can get most deals done without trading those kinds of prospects anyway these days.
Posted on 5/24/19 at 1:40 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Now if we could get a Scherzer though I'd be all down for trading a guy of that caliber if we have to. I just don't think Luhnow will and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

They gave a very good package as mentioned for Verlander including Daz Cameron as well. Verlander was totally worth it without question. Meanwhile, people wanting to give away Yed, Ted or Whitley to rent MadBum are nuts. You can get those moves done with prospect depth.
We won the World Series in 2017. We lost the ALCS to the best team last season with basically the two best building blocks on our entire team hurt (Altuve and Correa). Yet he still almost got the Nats to give us Harper last year for a four-player package headlined by Bawkake but WAS ownership foolishly vetoed it.
How Luhnow has handled the trade market has been smart the past two years overall. He doesn't want to trade away any more Josh Hader level talents for junk but he's also still being aggressive.

I'm with you. I wasn't saying the way he's handled it has been bad at all. Actually I've been quite impressed with it. I think the Nationals are more of the issue to get a guy of Scherzer's level. They're going to demand the world and I know Luhnow won't give that to him, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
ETA: I'd much rather him not mortgage away the future totally. It keeps the Astros in the race for the next several years the way it's been handled to this point.

We'd all love Scherzer but they are now set to pay big bucks to JV, Altuve and Bregman with Springer and Correa still waiting for theirs. It's hard to take on another pitcher if he's going to make a ton of money because of the luxury tax problems coming up.
If the Nats want to eat most of Max's salary, then I can see Luhnow trading Whitley for 3 postseasons worth of a beast ace. It could happen. That said, it would be much easier to do for a controlled guy like Thor.
