He should be top 3. Somewhere on par with Fromm and Mond. He came on at the end of the year. Most of the offensive line will return and the wide receivers will be back. I think he is a good quarterback and will have a mettenberger year 1 to 2 jump. Get ready for some non offensive offense tiger fans!

Franks made HUGE strides in year 1 under Mullen. Not sure why everyone is laughing at him, he had a solid season.

I might be a homer, but I'd take Burrow ahead of all but Tua and maybe Fromm (I really wasn't impressed with him against us).

You can certainly argue with Franks
If you wanted to I guess.
Burrow was the #50 ranked passer, Franks was #52.
Franks threw for 2,457 yards 24 TD and 6 INT, completing 58.4% of his passes on 322 throws. He ran for 350 yards and 7 TD and his team finished 10-3 with a head to head win over LSU.
Burrow threw for 2,894 yards 16 TD and 5 INT, completing 57.8% of his passes on 379 throws. He ran for 399 yards and 7 T, finishing 10-3 with a loss to Franks' UF team.
Burrow has him beat on yardage, but he also threw a lot more passes. Franks has 8 more TD passes and only one more INT. Objectively, Burrow is not clearly better and it is certainly arguable that Franks could perform better than him this year, especially considering that Mullen is his head coach.

Burrow stats were accumlated against a much more difficult schedule He also had the 107th offensive line out of about 120. Anyway. I would take Burrow over any of them except Tua.

That's simply not true. LSU was ranked #4 in strength of schedule. Bama was 1 and UGA was 2. A&M, Miss State and Auburn immediately followed LSU at 5, 6, 7.
And when you break down Burrow's stats, the vast majority came against pitiful defenses. He threw a total of 1 TD in five games against top 30 defenses.

I think Burrow's better than Franks but it's not an iron-clad case.
I think people are including the progression that they expect Burrow to make this year when comparing them, not comparing them as they performed last season.

I can get onboard with that, I think they are close to one another. One caveat: I think Burrow would be putting up much better numbers in a Dan Mullen offense.

I wouldn’t trade Burrow for Franks,Mond,or Bryant. PERIOD

quote:And people wonder why fans wanted Jimbo or Mullen over Coach O. Cleary they can take a less talented QB and make him perform better. Franks was trash the year before Mullen got there. Then in less than one year he had him out performing Burrow.
Mond and Franks are getting a lot of benefit of doubt from having true QB gurus coaching them.

Bryant too high.
Burrow and Bentley should be higher.
Neal will be much higher by the end of the season, and even higher had he gone somewhere other than Vandy.

I'll also bring this up about franks:
None of this seems to be taking into account OL which can vastly affect QB play.
Franks' OL last year was really quite good. This year it seems to be a clear weak point for UF coming up. Our OL play last year was pretty terrible, so was Tennessee's for Guarantano.
Look at some of the statistically best QBs in the SEC last year and how their OLs rated vs. some of the lesser ones.
OL Rankings are nationally from football outsiders
1. Tua - 199.44 QB Rating, OL #14 in sack rate, Top 10 in almost all run categories
2. Fromm - 171.22 QB Rating, OL #45 in sack rate, Top 15 in most most run categories
3. Jake Bentley - 146.25 QB Rating, OL #31 in sack rate, OL pretty average overall in run game
4. Feleipe Franks - 143.34 QB Rating, OL #23 in sack rate, Top 20 in most run categories
5. Jarrett Guarantano - 140.98 QB Rating, OL #106 in sack rate, horrible across the board in run categories [VERY impressive performance by Guarantano considering this]
6. Kellen Mond - 134.8 QB Rating, OL #97 in sack rate, average across the board in run categories
7. Joe Burrow - 133.21 QB Rating, OL #101 in sack rate, mixed bag in run categories (some pretty bad, some decent)
OL can have a big impact on QB performance. Franks had a very cushy OL he could operate behind I highly doubt he gets this year.

I cant argue with the list. This league has really upgraded at the QB position.
But, I wouldnt trade Burrow for any of them.
PS
Now with 3 or 4 of them, if their school threw in a starting Left Tackle, we may chat briefly.
