Yeah I will not even try to argue that Furniss was, by far, the better player. IMO, Furniss probably has the most impressive career of any former Tiger not named Todd Walker (not inclusive of pitchers just to be clear).

Honestly, I'm just a little disheartened that the SEC record is going to be in Starkville now moreso than any sentimentality I have with Furniss holding the record.
Yes but Mangum has absolutely earned it. Currently .399/.451/.521 with 20 SBs for the season. Imagine where LSU would be if Duplantis could have put up a season like that...
Although Duplantis' .826 OPS is actually the highest of his career (.823/.758/.824 the first 3) so it's not like he's really having a down year. He just traded some hits for some more extra base hits.

So after tonight’s game he now needs 12 more hits to tie? So now will need 8-9 post season games?
Posted on 5/17/19 at 10:28 pm to Binx
So basically they need to make it to a super regional
Posted on 5/17/19 at 10:30 pm to Binx
That really all depends, but yeah. If the rest of the lineup picks it up and hits better it would result in more trips through the lineup and more at bats per game for him.

He screwed your girlfriend, didn’t he. Stop being a little bitch.

I hope Furniss keeps it. Duplantis has more at bats than any other player in LSU history. Furniss was a beast. I would take one Furniss over three of Antoine. And we also wouldn’t have to hear about mondo all year
1. Eddie played with the hot bats. What would Duplaintis’ average be with those?
2. He had a tremendous OPS. Nothing Duplaintis nor Mangum can do to compare. How much did the bats play a role.
3. Both were clutch hitters.
4. Neither are close to being the best hitter in LSU History - Todd Walker. Not even comparable with 300+ hits in a season and how freaking clutch that guy was.

You would be an idiot, then

I love hearing about Mondo. He is the most famous athlete on LSU’s campus, and deservedly so.

Now 8 more hits to tie? 6-7 more games needed

Or one Hoover special going to 13 innings and lasting until 3 AM.

Mangum is having a big year, but over the course of his career he just doesn't come close to measuring up to Furniss. Furniss drew lots of walks. Mangum really doesn't, very much. Furniss had tons of power. Mangum doesn't really have any. And for as much speed as Mangum has, he hasn't stolen nearly enough bases. It's just a shame to see a great player like Furniss get his record broken by a guy who has largely been one dimensional. But, it is what it is now.

Yea you overestimated quite drastically with this one. I get you were using his rate at the time but Dups wasn’t gonna stay in a slump for long.

Mangum is not one dimensional.
Are you suggesting Duplantis doesn't deserve the record either?

Because you say so? The guy barely draws walks, hits for zero power, and doesn't drive in many runs, even with a good lineup around him. That's one dimensional.
Duplantis isn't exactly the king of drawing walks, but he's driven in a ton of runs in his career, and can now lay claim to at least one season of significant power. Duplantis isn't at Furniss' level, but he's been a better overall hitter than Mangum, and the best part is he's a Tiger.
I'm a little disgusted that you would defend an MSU player. That's a fan card violation.

Duplantis first three seasons: 89, 90, and 89 hits a year with a combined BA of .323.
Duplantis 2018: .321 with 76 hits and LSU has at least 4 more games.
He has been a little more streaky this year than his previous three seasons where he was just steady but he hasn’t really tailed off that much he just added some power.

I'm a Twanie fan through and through, but this just isn't true.
Mangum:
2016: .408 BA, .968 OPS
2017: .324 BA, .765 OPS
2018: .351 BA, .913 OPS
2019: .375 BA, .917 OPS
Twanie:
2016: .327 BA, .823 OPS
2017: .320 BA, .768 OPS
2018: .328 BA, .824 OPS
2019: .318 BA, .872 OPS

So can we let duplantis use Eddy’s Bat? Eddy was great and duplantis is great but let’s not pretend eddy didn’t have some advantage.
Posted on 5/22/19 at 12:51 pm to ElOsoBlanco7
What's impressive about Mangum is there is not much difference in his batting avg batting from the left or right side of the plate. His avg dropped in 2017 when he played with a broken hand for a 1/3 of the season and pitched.

He did walk a ton more than Duplantis though. So far Duplantis has played in 14 fewer games.
Both great Tiger hitters!
Agree about Furniss. A VERY underestimated part of hitting is OBP. When you are that tough to get out, hits + walks, that leads to more runs scored which leads to more wins. Last I checked, the objective was not to get out. Hate that sometimes a guy with a really high OBP is under-appreciated for a guy with a slightly higher BA but much lower OBP.

The bats are definitely the difference. Furnish wouldn’t have as many hits with today’s deader than wood bats they using now
