SP : "I may get tired of coaching before Brees gets tired of playing"

Saints head coach Sean Payton dropped by the Tiki Barber and Brandon Tierney show on CBS Sports radio and talked about a number of things, including the future of the team's quarterback position. Drew Brees is 40 years old and entering his 19 season in the NFL. How much longer does Payton think the future Hall-of-Famer is going to play?
"You know I don't ever want to try and predict it," Payton said. "I may get tired of coaching before he's ready to get tired of playing."
Brees showed no signs of slowing down last season, completing a career best 74.4% of his passes. 2019 is the final year of his current contact and will pay him $23 million.

Got a tight end for him
Need someone to rise up and be a legit #2 receiver

We will see
Could easily be no weapons behind Thomas + Kamara along with a banged up OL
Adding Cook and giving Smith + Kirkwood an additional year to mature + Meredith an extra year to heal needs to bare fruit
Also regardless of who wins Center the backup/combo position will be in better hands with either Easton or McCoy vs Bushrod IMO
The wheels could be coming off the track but we didnt put Drew in the best position to succeed either

The salary cap will end his career

A lot easier standing on the sidelines than facing a pass rush & Father Time. Someone may have to tell Drew when it’s time.

After he wins the super bowl this year, he'll bow out.

This is a good example of how statistics can be very misleading when you just look at them in vacuum.
Anybody who watched last year is at least a little bit concerned about Drew’s play after Thanksgiving. Hopefully it was because of O-Line injuries and lack of options at wide receiver.

Yeah right...... Payton is a competitive man with a big ego. He has every intention of proving himself beyond Brees. And I hope he continues to coach the Saints.

I don't need statistics to reveal what my eyes saws: some questionable decisions and off-target passes even with sufficient time given by the line.

Man I'm just not gonna fully buy in to the decline yet. you dont just drop off like that due to age after tearing it up for 3/4 of the season. Age ain't catching up to you randomly in week 13. I think there was more to it. I think he hurt his shoulder on that tackle against ATL when he threw the pick. He had a good game vs Pittsburgh and a decent one against Philly. I think injuries to the OL & a lack of weapons didnt help either
