Dude, you live in one of the most beautiful spots in the entire country.

I'd move out there in split second if I could convince the wife to go, and I love it here in the south.

Touché. Lots of southerners are moving here so one day it’ll feel like I’m back south haha

The pussies in Oregon aren't allowed to pump their own gas. It was like that in NJ too, I believe, until recently.

Oregon is a rather weird, and beautiful, state. Portland and surrounding area is full of batshit insane progressives, but the rest of the state is conservative as hell.

Washington is similar outside the Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia corridor.

The only thing I miss about the south is the food. Period.

There is good food all over this country. You just need to broaden your palette. And cook a chicken and sausage gumbo or red beans and rice at the house.

I can attend Mass at the same location my great, great grandparents did. I can show you where many are buried,

About ten years ago, I was having a discussion with someone about the differences between the north and the south. This was one of the points he brought up. He said something along the lines that northerners don't understand why we "are still fighting the Civil War." It's that because southerners in general have much closer ties to their land, community, and ancestors than northerners do. A lot of can say "my great-great grandpappy fought with Lee at Gettysburg!" then show you exactly where they are buried.

I'm like that - I live on land that has passed through six generations of my family. My family going back that six generations are all buried in a cemetery less than a mile from my home. Many members of my family have gone out into the world but always end up back here. One of the things I admired about my grandfather is how he really did do a "circle of life." He grew up on the family farm, got his college education, served in North Africa and Europe during World War II, traveled the country and the world, owned businesses, taught school, farmed, and finally settled down, living in the same farmhouse he grew up in. He died at the age of 81 in the exact same bedroom that he was born in.

You can also find the same examples in the west, and northeast.

I honestly don't think it's a "north vs. south" thing. It's more and urban vs rural thing.

I mean just look at the myriad of threads that occur here on the OT between people who live in rural areas/own homes, and the urban city dwellers who prefer to rent and live in the trendy cities.

I travel a lot for work and have seen most of this country. And I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Born and raised in southern Louisiana...also lived in Atlanta, Ga, Asheville, NC & Charleston,SC. I now live in the rural mountains of Vermont and friggin love it! I will never in my life ever live in the wretched southern U.S. ever again and do not miss it one single bit! With the exception of meeting my boys for the occasional Saints game in N.O., I would never ever set foot below the Mason Dixon line again.

Northeast corner, near Enterprise/Joseph Oregon is perfect. Not far from the Idaho or Washington borders. Bend is the trendy location but it's being ruined by hipsters.

Hate and stereotype all you want Mr. Perfect...but I got a log cabin in the mountains on 50 acres for $150k. All the Bernie lovers are in the cities and I am 30 mins from the nearest grocery store or McDonalds. Every one around me (including myself) are strapped and loaded for bear. Love hunting and fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, off roading, canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting. With no traffic and I may hear an ambulance siren once every 3 months. We go to bed with our door and cars unlocked and don't give it a second thought. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Are you ever going to grasp the fact that not everyone wants to live the exact same lifestyle you do?

Or have lived the lifestyle you do now, and have moved on to something different?

You're a fricking child.

Did my first tour in the Army at the Pentagon. In the cafeteria I asked the nice black lady where is the gravy for my rice, "lord baby we don't have that here". Boston was cold in the summer and everything is too expensive. Stationed at Los Alamos, after work the place was so boring that it made a 2x4 look exciting. After 7PM you could lay down on Main st. and not get run over by a car. The South has many better things, like gravy.

You guys keep saying the Mason-Dixon line but as someone who grew up on it I find most southerners don't think states like West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Kentucky, and Missouri are Southern. Also to add to that Northerners don't consider these states to be Northern either.

All those states are completely or the vast majority of them are located below the Mason-Dixon line.
