I miss things about south Louisiana but I can't imagine missing Arkansas or Mississippi

You're like 12 years old, no one cares about your opinion.

Find a diner or a greasy spoon. You'll find biscuits.

I moved to Ohio for a year and it was hell. It was cold as frick and the people were colder. Very different than the south.

Same....I could never be live somewhere that didn’t have mountains nearby or at least an easy driving distance to. But....that’s just my personal preference.
OP.....if you miss the South so much, why not move back? Everyone has their happy spot..,,sounds like the South is yours.

Yep. We were stationed in upstate NY. I'm from south GA and it was a huge let down. Sure, beautiful countryside but WTF.

I moved out of Louisiana when I was 19 and ended up living 9,000 miles away. It was fun, interesting, and made me grow up fast. After my son was born, we came home to visit family and that's when I realized that I wanted to come home to stay. Yeah, it's Louisiana, but it's home. I was living within walking distance of a beautiful South Pacific beach, but I wanted to move back to Louisiana. I couldn't put my finger on it at the time as to why, I just knew I wanted to come home. We did so, and I don't regret it. Home is family is, and my family was in Louisiana.
In Dixie Land I'll take my stand to live and die in Dixie.

Tried Chicago and Arizona for a while, but nothing like coming back to The South.

The only thing I miss about the south is the food. Period.

I have been to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, the Carribean, and to every region of the US. I have met good people everywhere, if you treat them with respect and have a good attitude. With that being said, no place else will never be home other than Louisiana. I can attend Mass at the same location my great, great grandparents did. I can show you where many are buried, and where they established their homes/plantations in the 1700's. Many of us in the South have a sense of place that folks in other regions do not. This is especially true in La. To each their own.

What is it about the south that one would sorely miss? I understand the basics like manners, fried food, and thick humid air. I moved west a few years ago and honestly don’t ever see myself moving back.

Moved to Arizona last year, mainly miss the people (friends and family) but the move was better for the long run. Better job market and lower crime compared to BR or Nola.

Dude, you live in one of the most beautiful spots in the entire country.
I'd move out there in split second if I could convince the wife to go, and I love it here in the south.

2. Do I really have to wait 3-5 minutes each time I go to the gas station for someone to come outside and pump my gas, which I am more than capable of doing myself?
Do what?

I think this is what people outside of the South don't understand. We've always been a distinct people tied to our land. There is just something special when you cross below the Mason Dixon that is heartwarming.
