Ever heard of clapping for the pilot as he lands the plane

I just came back from a trip to Morocco (flex) and I noticed all the passengers would clap for the pilot as he landed the plane and felt weird just sitting there being the only guy who didn't clap
is this just an international travel thing? I've never heard clapping whenever I've traveled in the States.
edit: I see people are assaying they've done it for rough weather, but it was a sunny as day and very normal landing with 0 roughness

Puerto Ricans do this every time you fly into San Juan.

The only time that's happened to me is when it took our pilot 3 tries to land in New Orleans.

I’ve only seen that when landing in really rough weather

I've had this happen plenty of times on really bumpy flights.
Its usually the mouth breathers. Same people who immediately stand up when the plane arrives at the gate like rushing to stand up and get their bag down will get them off the plane quicker than others.

I've seen it in rough weather. Winds around here are a bitch and you learn to appreciate the ability of some of these people and machines.

Yeah, real annoying. Happened while my buddies and I were on our way back home from Vegas. There was turbulence but not enough to reward a round of applause after landing at ORD. fricking pissed me off. Buncha fricking idiots out there, baws. Stay safe.

I've done it for a pilot who landed in a heavy cross wind. Felt like the plane was at 45 degrees to the runway, and I felt it swerve when the wheels grabbed.

Landing rough flights will typically get applause for the pilot. It's not uncommon.

It happened on a flight I was on, except we took off almost an hour late but still arrived on time. Pilot said he wouldn't spare the horses to get us back on time.
It's really weird when people clap at the end of a movie.

I wonder if a Pilot feels invalidated if he doesn't get an applause after a landing or if they make bets with their co-pilots to see if they'll get one

Yeah people clap every time I land at NSI (Cameroon).
Domestically, there was a rough flight during tornado season. We circled around waiting for the weather to pass (TUL), it didn't. Running out of fuel. Had to go to OKC to land. That shite was bumpy AF. Lady sitting next to me held my hand the whole time

I always try to start a slow clap. Get a lot of strange looks.

It’s only happened to me when landing in Tegucigalpa because of the dangerous airport there.

It grinds my gears when people do that.
