re: Shreveport cronyism: Mayor's new plan woefully underinsured city assets

My relatives in Shreveport tell me that a very small group of behind the scenes people controls the city. This group determines who gets elected to the important offices, so this shitstorm is all on them.

A city ordinance does give the mayor authority to unilaterally choose insurance agencies. But some on the council now want to change that

Something is screwy. They updated the ordinance in February to already correct this. Previously it looks like millions of dollars annually were leaching out of the city in the Risk Budget. The city self-insures for some of the risk and carries an umbrella policy for catastrophic damages.
I would have to see the limits set on the insurance policies to compare. It is possible that the new policy is better for what it covers, although it may not have taken into account the city self insuring to a certain level.

Trying to understand Louisiana politics is impossible.
It's going to be interesting to see what the blowback on Perkins is from all of this. It should be severe but I think the people who would normally pushback on things are about fed up with Shreveport politics. Get rid of one clown and another one gets voted in.
The only solutions here is that Perkins is corrupt or incompetent. It seems as though his administration is setting up to throw their hand picked broker under the bus for fraud, as hes been fined for it before. They're claiming ignorance... "well we were told the level of coverage would be the same".
1) What kind of dumbasses aren't aware of their exact coverage
2) Who hired the broker that was previously fined for fraud and incompetence?

Less than $750. Just consider it a gift.

And you'd be wrong, as you usually are.
Sykes is a 2007 Marketing Major drop-out of Southern, he dropped out to pursue a career in men's fashion after working as an insurance salesman. He's a raging incompetent which is why the current mayor had no problem handing off the insurance brokering to him (with a $250,000 commission fee).

You think they self insure to the point where they can reduce coverage to 6%?

I was really surprised that Shreveport had an electable mayoral candidate with his resume: West Point and Harvard.
Word around the camp fire is that he is “throwed” and not all there for whatever reason.

Not surprising, West Point and Harvard Law could have set him up for better career advancement than Mayor of Shreveport.

Yeah, I was told long before this came down by someone in the know that he was off. Looks like that is starting to show.

We should totally keep voting for and electing people solely because they’re the same color as us. Works great.

No, just plain incompetence from people who have no idea how to do their jobs. Sykes admitted to the city council that he had no experience with municipal insurance. Stop trying to defend them, you are just looking like a clown.
