I know it's not popular but just got a Nissan Titan 4x4. 5 year 100k mile warranty.

the rear axle is weaker than the 9.75" Sterling Ford uses in 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton options,
Ford 3.5 eco boost with mods is probably the best towing 1/2 ton in my experience followed by the gm 6.2s. Ford used to have the interior game and multimedia locked down, but the new gm series really levels that out.
I have some decent miles with the 3.5s ford, 5.3 and 6.2 gms, and 5.7 rams all from current gens or the previous. I have only had a tundra rental for a few days, but was one of my least favorites along the ram the last gen.
My next truck will be a 6.2 gm something.

Tundra gas burning junk. Tacoma one of the best trucks ever made.

No, that’s not how any of this works.

It’s not bad, but it makes less than the Hemis and Ecoboosts of the world.

albeit the updates to the truck aren't done anywhere near as often as domestic trucks
In real life, it’s a solid 2009 truck.

Tell me about it. I have a 2007 Tundra that runs great. As much as I'd like a shiny new truck with bells and whistles, I really have the truck to haul and tow stuff. My truck does just fine in that regard and I guess I'll keep it 15 years or 20 years?? Man I want a new truck. But there's nothing wrong with my Tundra. What a dilemma.

I had a Tundra w almost 200
No rating has it high in torque or towing capacity
Terrible braking
Quiet ride on highway. I liked it. And would have another. But you are a little out there

No. All the rattling inside was shite rolling and bouncing around in the toolbox. Cleaned it out and it stopped.
Average so far this week is 16.9 mpg and that is with the 4.30 gears. Other than it riding atrociously bad, I havent found much I dont like about it. It literally rides as bad as my friends dump truck.

Throw a couple hundred pounds of shite in the bed and get a big front bumper

I bought the Tundra because I wanted 200k plus miles out of it. That didn't happen, regardless of what everyone claims.
So was it on 37s or bigger? Tell the truth baw
I'm a black sheep here in that I love the engine and transmission in the titan, but I hate everything attached to it.
I just picked up a wrecked vk56de for a motor swap in my pro4x.
Sitting in the back waiting for my 4.0 to die.
...it shows no signs.

Like all nissans you're going to find weird little issues around 120k... But it Will run forever.

i owned a tacoma. though a great vehicle, had it's issues which is why i traded it at the time.
also had a 98 f150 and a 2015 F150 platinum. both solid.
looking to trade the ford now for the new Ram Limited. the interior is nothing like i've seen in a truck, or most any vehicle. never thought i'd own a dodge, but they are fiiiine.

I've owned 3 of them: toyotas absolutely are not without their own issues just like the others.
And to the OP: it's laughable that you compare a very much half-ton pickup to having the same set of nuts to throw around what a 3/4 ton pickup does.
A tundra is not, in fact, anything close to a 3/4 ton.
It just isn't.

Doesn't the Tundra get like 10 mpg?
i know i'm exaggerating a bit, just slightly, but that "beast" of a truck isn't all that much better at pulling a normal boat than any other 1/2 ton truck, but the difference being there are trucks out there getting over 20mpg, and some getting closer to thirty with the ecodiesels. The Tundra, and the Titan for that matter, get horrible gas mileage.
If you want to have an everyday tow truck, then fine, it's a good truck. If you're a normal guy that tows something average like a boat 15 times a year, it's a pretty stupid truck to own unless you could care less about wasting money on gas. And i'm not some green thumb up my arse kinda guy, but you're living in the last century if you enjoy driving a truck that gets 15mpg.
You could make an easy argument that the Tundra is the worst full sized truck on the market. Depends on what is important to you as a truck owner.

Came here to post exactly this. I love a good Toyota but they are rated for 2000lbs less than everybody else.
I'm sure pulling 5-7k lbs that the 5.7 is a beast, but if you're getting close to 10k lbs you need something with more pulling power.
I switched back to a Chevy for this very reason. I really wanted a new Tundra but needed to pull 8500-9000lbs.

The Tundra was the strongest by far pulling a 22' bay boat.
What does a 22' bay boat weigh? 3000lbs?
My Chevy drives like a car and as mentioned in another post the seats are way better.
I still like Tundra's though.

Again, I have a 3/4 ton 4x4 with a gas engine and 4.3 gears that is averaging 17mpg (15ish lifetime) on my commute and rated for something like 18k pounds. It's easy to make an argument that the tundra is the worst.

The newer titans look slightly better. Got it for the hunting lease etc.

Only thing I've ever heard about the Tundras was the secondary air pumps going bad and making the trucks go into limp mode. $2300 fix from the dealership
This was a common 4.6 issue. You can unplug the pump just behind the passenger headlight and bring the truck out of limp mode. The pumps are also easy-ish to change on 4.6 with the 4.7 being a little more challenging.
A delete is also available.
Anyone who's got a leaky cam tower on 5.7 and wants to do the job, I've done one before and can help talk you though it. It's not the worst thing in the world. Locking the timing can be intimidating but it's not a huge deal and you don't need any of the computers at the dealer to diagnose the oil leak but I have a copy of techstream if needed.

Towing ratings is off the charts for a 1/2 ton compared to domestic 1/2 tons.
Literally every domestic 1/2 pickup has more towing capacity than the Tundra.
Toyota Tundra Max Towing Capacity: 10,500 lbs
Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 1500 Max Towing Capacity : 12,500 lbs
Dodge Ram 1500 Max Towing Capacity: 12,750 lbs
Ford F-150 Max Towing Capacity: 13,200 lbs
quote:
I've pulled boats behind F150's, Sierras and Tundras. The Tundra was the strongest by far pulling a 22' bay boat. I am amazed to see the rated towing capability of those other trucks you posted though. Like I said, I'm open to having my mind changed.
Call me when you've towed a 8,500 lb travel trailer up and over the Rockies. In the few years we've had our truck (2103 F150) and trailer, we've towed it over 25K miles and have made that journey multiple times. The ability to pull is only 1/2 the story. Stopping (and remaining stable while doing so) is the other half.
And another thing people often over look when talking about towing is the maximum payload capacity. Basically when you hook up a trailer you have to subtract the tongue weight from your payload capacity. For example, our trailer has an 800 lb tongue weight. That weight counts toward the maximum payload and has to be subtracted from other stuff we can haul (people, fluids (gasoline) and payload) when towing. The tundra has a measly 1,600+/- payload capacity. The F150, 2,000 at a minimum and 3,200 as a max (depending on model). The Chevy/GMC have about 2,100 lbs and the Ram has about 2,300 lbs.
So say you have a 400-500 lb tongue weight on your boat trailer. With the tundra that leaves you with 1,100 lbs of payload capacity. Subtract out the weight of your fuel, (30 gallons @ 6.8 lbs per gallon roughly 200 lbs) and your down to 900 lbs of cargo capacity. Add your 3 buddies your taking fishing and some gear, and you are at your max...
If you really want to tow, the Tundra isn't really the best option.

Toyota is way overdue to upgrade their nav screen/computer. They're stuck in 2010 while everyone else seems to be in 2020.
