Lawyers in: Practice what you really enjoy or what makes you money?

To the lawyers of the OT board. Do you practice what you really enjoy or do you practice what makes you the big money?
If you were single, no debt, minimal bills and expenses, what would you do?

Wouldn’t trade my Bird Law practice for anything

In general, you do better when you do something you enjoy. The money follows the excellent performance.
You may be able to force yourself to do something you dislike for a period of time, but you'll eventually wear down and cash out.

I enjoy the niche I'm in. It's what I wanted to do going in to law school.

Not a lawyer, but being a sports agent sounds fun

IANAL (yet), but I will have a practice in something that I enjoy (or, rather, care about) and ought to make a pretty good living.
I'm going to advocate and represent good baws in divorces with a DUI or drug charge thrown in every now and then.

It's all about quality of life
what makes you happy and was is it worth to you?
Money? Schedule flexibility? Being your own boss?
When I first started I was willing to trade in $$ for flexibility in hours, knowing the money would come in time. For me as long as I could make enough money to live at least somewhat comfortably until the bigger checks started rolling in, I was more than willing to trade in some money for being able to take trips when I wanted, go to lunch when I wanted, dress casually when I wanted.
The answer to the question is subjective, but the question is what means most to your quality of life

I make bank. And I don’t enjoy the job. I’m not willing to give up the money. But I am constantly telling my wife how much I hate work life.
I am not living my dream.

Nothing gets my dick harder than patent and copyright law.

Money is decent, but very boring. Recently went from corporate compliance to estate planning, which was a big change but it's easy and the stress is much, much less.

It depends on what is more important to you. Some people want the fancy things and some want to make a difference

i typically enjoy what i do now. i get to help people and explain to them how my competition over charges them. they really appreciate it (i joke sometimes that i could form a cult one day). i made this choice a few years back and left a LOT of money on the table. i do sometimes wish i had the money, but it's not a certainty that i'd still be alive (or at least living without a substance abuse problem)

Left in house for more money and longer hours... Miss the hours of in house, but wouldn't want to go back. But it was within the same area of practice.
Anyone in my related legal field not working for an advertising attorney is choosing a practice they enjoy over one that makes you the big money.
The key is to find the most money for the job that you don't absolutely hate. You don't have to do something you love, as long as you don't hate it and the pay is good.

Surely nobody starts law school with the intent of becoming a PI attorney because they enjoy the work and clientele?!?

you'd be shocked
there is this groupthink within the cult of PI that pretends car wreck attorneys are doing a noble service to help the little people

I would guess that the thought process is to eat shite and be miserable for a few years with the hope of being successful enough to expand and no longer having to really see the clientele.
