Would something like “Live Aid” be as great today?

Just finished watching “Bohemian Rhapsody” and remember watching “Live Aid” that summer.
I was just wondering if something that grand would work today, or would it be ruined by the big money sponsors, greedy money grabs, etc, like they did with the revamp of Woodstock ten years ago.

Would be considered racist today. Some left wing idiot would claim it’s their right.

Would probably be ruined by the lack of talent available today.

No, not at all.

You answered your own question. Big money has taken the mystique out of almost eberything. That’s why you see NFL 7up dos locos tacos tide pod halftime shows brought to you by Wal-Mart. The heart and soul of America has been completely corporatized.
Also with the way the internet is now it’s almost impossible for anyone to have the kind of legendary status the bands back in the day have, there’s just too much music available. Plus people would be total fairies about it and spend 75% of the concert with their cell phones in the air filming.

Lots of right wing idiots would complain about entertainers telling them to give money to Africa

Random thought here, did Live Aid actually do anything for the famine in Africa?

"But...but...but...the homeless veterans and the starving kids in Appalachia! We can't donate to more than one cause at a time, my mind can't wrap around it. But for real, as long as those poor Appalachians don't get MY tax money then you should totally donate to them. frick the Africans"

I’m not talking about the fund raising part of the concert, I’m just talking about the concert itself.
Nine hours of continuous music by some of the greatest musicians at the time.

Expect Bob Geldof to sneak in your house and shave your eyebrows.

It would be half rap and half bro country. Florida Georgia line would finish the night off with Special guest appearance by Cardi B.

I'm sure there are some musicians left somewhere? Might be their chance for a break? I don't know, but the people in pop music today are the worst ever.

When the measuring stick was, "everyone has to get on a stage, and truly perform live", its what made artists stand out.
They tried harder to sound better. There was true artistic competition and inspiration. Artists grew.
It's a lot different now.

There's plenty of talent today in pop music among the weeds of crap talent and one hit wonders, just like it's always been.

Time goes by quick for you old man. That was 20 years ago. Woodstock ‘99.

You'd have some of the originals, some bands with different members, and then you'd have to deal with the dumbasses at the studios for today's performers. Because of the costs involved it would likely be a PPV instead of the original telethon format. Also at the time it was a way to connect with the world...now that happens everyday. Hell Africa is giving out money if you wire the Nigerians the money to send you your winnings.
Instead the closest we'll get is what Adriana Grande pulled off in England and the obligatory ____ Relief that fills Friday night primetime every 2 or 3 years.
