Illinois just passed $15/hr minimum wage
And AOC says “Hold my beer... we just walked 25k jobs out of New York and we are proud of it”
Bitch thinks they are getting 5B back by doing this. Doesn’t realize how tax credits work.

I served in the Marines for over a decade. The reason why I came back to Illinois is for free college (Illinois Veterans Grant) I have paid nothing for school, get paid to go, and still have enough education credit left for a master's - after completing two degrees in three years. I'm far from a lib and have worked for everything I have. Can't help that the state is shite because of corrupt politics from up North and this is where my family is.
Take 57 south to 55, cut across the bootheel to 67, take it all the way into DFW. Thank you for your service and welcome to Texas.

No problem.
Also, since this is directly related to the subject at hand, our state abides by the Federal minimum wage.
More pros about TN:
1) Steady job growth and healthy economic outlook
2) Lots of high-income jobs are being added. For example, Nashville landed Amazon and Alliance Bernstein last year. A lot of companies are moving here to escape tax burdens.
3) Several Fortune 500 companies are based here. In Memphis alone, you have FedEx, Autozone, and International Paper. There is no shortage of good places to work.
4) Unless you decide to live in downtown Nashville, the cost of living is dirt cheap. People who earn $50k per year do very well for themselves here. This is a great state to be frugal.
5) You're never more than an 8 hour drive from the nearest beach, and the mountains here are beautiful. This is a great state for outdoorsmen.
6) The people are generally friendly here. And we have lots of good food.
Cons:
1) There is a very high sales tax (9.25%) that offsets the absence of income tax. That can drain your disposable income, especially if you aren't earning much. Can be tough on young people and the working class.
2) TN has a very high violent crime rate. Mostly due to Memphis, but the rest of the state isn't too hot either.
3) Do you like beer? We have the nation's highest beer tax. Also, you can't buy liquor in grocery stores here. And there are dry counties galore in rural areas.
4) The schools are bad if you're anywhere but the suburbs. If you settle in a rural county, send your kids to private school.
5) Severe opioid and meth use in TN, especially in the East. Goes hand in hand with impoverished areas.

I've heard very good things about Tennessee and have been considering it. I believe I made a post on the off-topic board a few months ago.
Ooh, I forgot that Tennessee has those things called mountains. And Sevierville-Pigeon Forge-Gatlinburg is a great place to visit (my SO had never been to east Tennessee--I had an aunt and uncle there and still have cousins there, so I knew the area fairly well).

Is it still assessed on food? I think I remember it was but it may have changed.

Thanks to the Improve Act, our sales tax on food decreased from 5% to 4%. But that does not include any local taxes. Each county imposes its own sales tax in addition to the state.
Where I grew up, in Williamson County (outside Nashville), I paid 9.25% tax on groceries.

Associates is communications, bachelor's is general studies. I know those aren't tough degrees, but the reason I have them was to advance quicker. Most of my studies have been business, economics and management courses. General Studies bachelor's got me out of foreign language and my studies have been in class with a few online. My community college is a top ranked college in Illinois and I'm currently at Eastern Illinois University.
I met with the grad school yesterday and deciding if I want to take advantage of my remaining military education credits. Thinking about a master's in Cyber security, Economics, or MBA. With my military and institutional credits, I have over 200 hours on my transcript.
I have a work from home job that I got exiting the military, but will be looking to leave that and look for a full time job. Just for going to school on Chapter 30 education benefits, I get $2k/mo as a full time student. My military experience was Quality Assurance in Aviation, and did recruiting for three years - so HR/sales background, as well as 10 years of leadership experience.

Ok. I saw them. I'll look at some job postings at my company and see if we can get you back down here in SEC country. I'll catch you on the Arkansas off topic board.

That almost never happens.

Haha! Yeah I know how fricked that sentence was. Still incredible. I have never seen Illinios do so much work - but it's not the work that needs done. I see these screenshots on my Facebook daily with bills stripping away rights and making life more uncomfortable. It's nuts!!
