And even if it was, Americans would still choose flights over rail.
Depends on how fast the trains are, and how often they stop, how much it costs, and what the experience is like.
I would much prefer a train ride, even if longer, simply due to how extremely unpleasant air travel is. You generally have to add 3 hrs to any trip just to deal with plane BS.
With all that said, the california high speed rail won't be finished until 2029.
So this isn't happening

we don't have suffer to do either wall or modern trains.

Good thing that building all of that infrastructure won't have any carbon footprint
That's one of the most obvious things about the green new deal. If emissions are a problem they're REALLY going to be a problem in the race to get to some carbon neutral fantasy. We'd have to drastically increase emissions in the infrastructure build up for all of the green stuff if we're planning on doing it on such a quick time line.

High-speed rail to every podunk town served by a 30-seat regional airline.
Good Lord.

Watch for the airline lobbyists to just sit back and let this happen. Right.
Something tells me they're not too worried about this.

Pipe dream but hypothetically it would be awesome

Idiotic!!!
High Speed Rails would work inside California.
Anywhere else, not so Much!
The Japs have some of the best High Speed Rails in the world.
They also have 3/7ths the population of the US living in a space that is smaller than California.
A country our size can not effectively move people using High Speed Rails.

Lets see them get this useless idea through the animal rights/environmental nuts.
I'm sorry you cant build the railway there because it will impact the clover dung mosquito.

No. Hypothetically it would be stupid.
It's one thing to say hypothetically it would be cool to have more high speed rail. But not at the expense of having 0 domestic flights.

We cant figure out high speed rail between SFO and LAX. Or BR and NOLA. Two places where something like that would actually work. How in the shite is high speed rail going to work across the country?

When are they going to build the Rio Norte Line ?
Houston can't even get rail between downtown and the airports because of the taxi/limo/ride share lobby.

his is very ambitious--very excited that senator Markey is introducing this in the Senate!
Although it's just an outline it's a huge step forward to move the conversation in the right direction. The National Climate Assessment issued late last year gives us a decade to turn things around. With climate change we can expect less food, less water, more extreme weather events, and national crises constantly.
On top of that were seeing the insect population plummet which means less food for other animals which means less animals in general. We are in deep trouble and have to act quickly to save ourselves. There can't really be anymore waiting and frankly it doesn't matter if you think we can transition to all clean energy in a decade--we have to shoot for it because even if it takes longer the 10 year goal will still allow us to do it much faster than setting a 30 year goal. Humans are notorious for letting deadlines lapse and falling a bit short so whatever timeframes we set it will be longer than that. But setting the goal at 10 years let's people know this is it. People need to realize this is for all the marbles. If we can't solve this we might go extinct. We can't live without the earth and its other forms of life. There's no planet B. So we have to do this.
And we can't worry about what other countries are doing. We are America. We have always done what we think is in our best interest regardless of what others are doing. It's just like at a job where your boss says dont worry about Tim or Gary worry about yourself.
As for the economy, there are tremendous costs yes but the alternative as I said is much worse and we dont have time to do this slowly. That time has run out bc so many people haven't taken the threat seriously. It's like if you wait until 50 to start dieting and exercising, moderation isn't enough. You have to go all in to save your life. And in the end there will be an entirely new economy built on this. It's worth it to save ourselves and transition into the economy if the future. Amazing. This person is not retarded. The comment is written sufficiently well. But the logic? Very retarded.

Yeah, that'll be cheap.
This is how you tank your chances of being taken seriously. Leftists, you gave her power. Now you have to deal with her.

Trillions of dollars we don't have on something that will never work?
