If you like to go to LSU sporting events, you'll be about 90 minutes outside of Athens.

We'd do Mac's before the game. Then be gluttons at the park for more beer and nachos and hot dogs. All for like $5.

I asked him why everything was so cheap, and he said they want it to be affordable so more people would come. Opposite of big time pro and college sports stadiums.

IDK what you're drinking, but beers at Drive games are like $5 outside of Thursday nights, when you can get PBR for $1.

Welcome to the Republic of South Carolina.

Tell us what you do, baw. As long as it isn't O&G, we probably have something to keep you busy.

LOL!! I got to attend one of the baseball games last year when I was up there house hunting. It was a Thursday and yes!! $1 PBRs! Had a very good time there.
Also went to Macs that trip, very good.
My boys are both into the white water scene, both guides on the weekends as a break from their real jobs. LOL.
I’ve been asked 100 times if I’m gonna become a Clemson fan. I think Clemson has a good program, nothing against them at all. But, LSU is number one for me. If there were to be a time where Clemson plays and it wouldn’t interfere with LSU game, I might would go.
Someone mentioned being near Athens, I’ve already mapped how many miles to all SEC teams. Looks like most away games will be as close or closer than I was from Hammond.
Home games in BR will be just a bit farther!! LOL.

If you were in a fraternity in college, you can always try and network with alumni groups in the area. Clemson, Furman, Wofford and USC all have a presence in the Greenville area.

Well, I’ve been in Law Enforcement for 25 years. Worked with mentally handicapped prior to that. Was in the logging equipment sales/service industry also for some years. Was an accomplished diesel mechanic at one time but I don’t believe I’m in for going back to that. Lol
I’m hoping to find some organization that I can mean something to and also have that organization mean something to me.
I don’t just want to be somewhere just to get a paycheck.

They're in the perfect spot for it that's for sure. Quick trip to the Chatooga and Green Rivers from there, and that's some of the best whitewater in the country.

I'm a whitewater kayaker myself and have thought about moving up to the Greenville area for just that reason. I'm satisfied having the Saluda downtown here in Cola as my "home" river for the time being though.

I want to get into white water soon. Any spots around Greenville you'd recommend for a yak?

You talking rivers to go on our purchasing a boat?

As for rivers, the Lower Green is your best bet. Very easy Class II/II+ to learn on. I highly recommend getting some instruction though. There is a great group up in Saluda, NC that offers classes frequently during the spring/summer: H20 Dreams

If you want to run anything over a Class III, it's imperative you get your roll down and learn swiftwater rescue fundamentals. You'll need instruction for that.

Purchasing one. If there's a specific place to go that could give really good advice instead of me just picking one off the wall?

Thanks for that info as well!

The main river my boys work on it the Chattooga. They work with Southeastern Expeditions, mostly. One of them goes to Alaska every summer and guides up there. He loves it!!!

Not sure about a store in Greenville, but Dagger kayaks is actually HQ'd out of Greenville and I highly recommend them. You can find a dealer locator on that page. I run a Mamba 8.6 myself, but they have a bunch of other types/sizes. You really need to find a local club and try a few different types of boats out first though.

Other popular brands are Pyranha and Liquid Logic.

Absolutely beautiful river. I've rafted it many times. I'm not quite good enough to tackle that bad boy in my kayak though.

ETA: And sorry to hijack your thread. Any discussion of whitewater is like catnip to me.

Same, but I had to ask, rafting in upstate SC is a little too specific of a topic on a La based forum. Strange timing because our intern here goes to Clemson and loves it and he's been talking to me about buying a kayak.
