Payton did say they might never recover from this. I'm sure they see the writing on the wall.

Brees shouldn't have checked out of that play in that situation. 3 runs, even for zero yards, and a fg greatly increase the odds of winning that game. Simple as that.
we would have done that had we received the flag on TLL
BEFORE THAT brees read the box and made the right call. It woulda been a TD.

Maybe so. Maybe you just weren't good enough. At least this way you don't get embarrassed by the Pats though right?

jeff saturday said that also
it is obvious why. we are out of realistic time.
we blew it in 2011 and 2017
then here we are again 1 seed for first time in 9 years which is almost impossible to get and look what happens. brees is old. he knows how much luck you need to fall your way to be in this spot. we could have easily been 9-7 this year.

Pretty sure he meant from a personal standpoint. You are never going to forget getting screwed out of a Super Bowl. The organization however has a top 5 coach, a top 5 talent evaluator, and a serious amount of top flight young talent. We just had the 1st Back to Back Division titles in the history of the Franchise and the first Back to Back Seasons with at least 1 playoff win in Franchise History. As devastating as this was, the last two seasons have been amazing compared to the Previous 3, 2012 and pretty much everything before 2006 save 2000.

he calls everyone simple minded, people explain why he's wrong and it was the correct call...his retort "agree to disagree" and a troll about the Patriots smoking us. Cool

Nobody gave me anything more than opinions and what ifs. Those are no better, or worse, than my what ifs
ETA, I also didn't call everyone simple minded. I called your response simple minded. Let's not twist facts here.

Also, FYI, if Brees gets his full 33 million cap hit next season he will have made more money than any other player ever, edging Payton Manning by a couple of million.

Did you though? Seems like a competent coach would've easily been able to chew plenty clock after the big pass play and kick a fg that would ultimately win it.

Its time for Brees to give a fn discount.

Drew counts $33.5 million against the cap next year.
Mrs. Benson should offer Drew $35 million in Saints ownership in exchange for the $33.4 million hit to the cap.
Is that possible?

Nobody gave me anything more than opinions and what ifs.
Start with Brees, the most accurate QB of all time. Brees to Thomas is the most sure thing/accurate combo(I think) of all time. Meaning, when Brees throws to Thomas, you can guarantee more than any other duo that the ball will be caught.
I'm sure most would agree pre-snap with that look there at worst a 90% chance that ball is completed. If the ball is completed, seems pretty obvious it's a 1st down. If we had a 1st down, we'd be a chip shot FG with around :10 left away from winning, probably another 90+% chance of winning.
Put it all together, and I'd argue it's a very fair assessment to say we'd be at an 80% (I truly feel that's the very low end and it's more likely 90-95%)or more chance of winning if I told you we'd get that exact look on 1st down and Brees would choose to throw to Thomas.
Conversely, if we run 3 times and attempt a FG(assuming it's made) giving the ball to the Rams with 1 full minute, only needing a FG, and having a kicker who can go from 60+. At that point, I doubt the odds of us winning are higher than the above.
Again, i'm saying on the front end nothing is factual there, it's all made up numbers, 100%. But I'd like to see what parts of that you don't feel are correct.

Well the point still stands. Brees will be either the highest paid player ever or #2 by just 2-4 million. Which is fine. He was/is a great qb. But... I wouldn’t be mad if he gave a little of that back in a real effort to get a good #2 and a CB.

To be fair, I don't disagree with you on what would've happened had the offense executed when they needed to. But that didn't happen.
What if the facemask on Goff gets called around 5 minutes. 1st and goal from the 1. Wouldn't you agree this was just a terrible officiating crew, and not a screw job of the saints?
My point is, the refs didn't take the win away. The playcalling and/or execution did.

I don't think he will. I LOVE Drew, but the man has always put money before team.
